Like most of the world, Australia changed to and uses 9kHz station spacing, the USA uses 10kHz. This change occurred back in the late 70s. See Geneva Frequency Plan of 1975 - Wikipedia

Some radios have a switch on the back to select the channel spacing. It could also be selected by software setting.

What year model is your L322?

As an aside, I occasionally lose all sound from stereo, radio and CD. For some reason the system mutes itself by turning the volume right down. Rotating the volume control many times brings the sound back. The first time it happened, I thought the Becker power amps had failed as they are wont to do.

Thanks. I didn't know about the freq spacing. It is a 2003 ,has the television and sat nav (both not worth a pinch of nanny goat poo now). I researched last night and will try to get into the settings via infotainment system. Might pop the old tuner open and have a look for an obvious bridge or switch but I imagine it would be a software adjustment.

Mine is also a 2003 model. The original TV is analogue and thus useless now unless you update it. I converted mine to digital TV but reception is often pretty bad. A waste of time, money, and effort.

I added a reverse camera at the same time. The screen is ready for a reverse camera. I don't know why LR didn't fit one.

I upgraded to the most recent maps (V19) of 2013. Mine has the Mk IV DVD in the back.

I removed the in-built phone when ther 2G (GSM) network closed and installed a BMW ULF Bluetooth module. It interfaces to the screen.

am radio in us is spaced at 10mhz, Australia is spaced at nine....I think

all Australian AM frequencies add up to nine if you want to try. 6+9+3=18, 1+8=9.....and so on.


FM radio is as far as I know constant worldwide, ie each station can be separated by 0.1mhz.

I think on am the separation is because of crosstalk.

Something similar was happening on grey imports and a modulator or something like that had to be fitted.

I think I still have the mkIII sat DVD in the back. I also added reverse camera.and BMW's phone module was added by previous owner. That's when I realized I had issues. When my phone was connected to the bluetooth I could make calls be no sound my end. Then penny dropped ,front speakers were
Not working. Funny thing is my screen takes a while to wake up in the morning but in reverse the image is instant.

Ok all sorted. Procedure to get into settings. Press radio power button once then very quickly press and hold the select button (approx 10sec) then comes up with unit serial number. Scroll through, USA was set found JAP,CANADA, and OCE . Went for Japan 1st ,AM was right but FM only went to 89. Something , so set it to OCE (whatever that stands for) and now all good.

OCE probably = Oceania.

Japan uses a different FM range to the rest of the world.
