Thread: Someone who will actually do timing guides on M62??

I don't know where you live, but I can personally reccommend KLR Automotive at Windsor 02-45775010 They look after my daughter's D4 and have been great. Roving Mechanical 02-95332777 at Peakhurst are also highly rated. Graeme Cooper, Bruce Davis among others.

I've rung quite a few places....a handful of them will take it on... Most expect about the 5k mark for the job... For that money I'd probably just have to do it myself... About 18hrs was the quoted hours.

Hi, I did do this recently; M62 TU timing chains and Vanos rebuild

It took me about 70 hours iirc, but that was because I am not a mechanic and I took my time and also rebuilt the vanos units. I borrowed the cam lock tool from FisherX (thank you sir) and had to buy a few tools along the way. I spent ~aud1k on parts kit and tools. I was also getting quotes for 4.5k and 5k. Car is running well, but its fuel economy is awful - no worse though. I would do the PCV CCV if you're in there and the corresponding vac hoses.

I don't have the service records other than stamps in the book... There's nothing indicating that the lower covers have been opened, ever. It certainly does look like someone has used some sealant on the upper sump to lower timing guide cover... Which I would ASSUME isn't factory, but nothing looks touched!

I'd love it if they were.

It also doesn't look like the valley pan has ever been touched either which surely has to be some sort of record.

Once they are gone it's apparently unmistakable! But pre-going you may have a start up rattle if there's bits missing, etc.

Why not try a BMW specialist. I have used these blokes in the past and they seem to know their stuff.
