It sounds similar to mine which I expect to be the belts.

Many major issues? My 3.6 is over 300000ks

From what I can find a 4.4 is more reliable

The oil cooler gaskets and o-rings on the turbo oil feed pipe at the rear of the cooler will harden and leak but would have already been replaced well before 140K kms, more normally around 80K kms. The cooler seals are available but not the o-rings without buying a complete pipe assembly but Viton seals are readily available. Both genuine and after-market complete coolers are available too.

The secondary turbo originally had a single oil drain which can often cause oil to accumulate in the inlet tract if the secondary turbo doesn't get used often enough. Some owners just work the engine occasionally to prevent the possible massive smoke plume but I had the twin retrofit drain fitted by the dealer as part of the purchase deal as its a big job to fit, including drilling and tapping a thread into a blanked hole in the sump.

Early 4.4's were fitted with a secondary inlet isolation valve that could stick causing restricted performance. The later improved version can be retrofitted.

The 4 short hoses between the air intake and the inlet manifolds will split causing restricted performance, but easily replaced with short lengths of silicone hose.

IMO it's an excellent engine but would be better with EGR disabled/mapped-out.

Various minor improvements were made around the end of 2011 but the secondary turbo twin drain wasn't factory-implemented until the late 2014 engines in the L405/L494.

    Thanks Graeme

do you know is there any model/year thats a pic of the bunch with beetr features, not so worried about, more so related to reliability and driveability

I see you fitted the rear the e-dif looks like they were rarely fitted, are they standard on ABs?

    cheers

ABs generally had more features but some more than others depending on what was ordered. Surprisingly JLRA didn't include adaptive cruise as an available option although an occasional MY11-12 vehicle has it, possibly vehicles redirected from Japan.
The e-diff was standard with the 5.0 SC but otherwise had to be ordered, which was uncommon. I retro-fitted the e-diff to mine, which wasn't just a diff swap. The 5.0 uses a lower ratio diff so not compatible with the 4.4.
