Trans Failsafe Program - a different problem

I had a problem where the gearbox would suddenly go into Trans Failsafe Prog and do a hard shift down. Turning the car off would seem to reset it and it would be ok for a short while. A check with a diagnostic computer indicated an output speed sensor (STC4444) fault and noise on actuator circuit.. The trans was due for a service so I dropped it and the new sensor to the transmission specialist who had rebuilt the box a few years back (before I bought the L322).

After the service, I drove home and, about 10km from the auto repairer, it happened again. This time the errors on Autologic and Testbook were different.

After some searching on RangeRovers.net, I found threads referring to cracked solder joints on the potentiometer in the transfer case motor. So I removed the potentiometer and there were indeed cracked joints. I soldered them up and all is well.

Note this only applies to the 5HP trans (02-05) and the TD6 (02-06) with the NV225 transfer case, not the later transfer case.

Sorry about the quality of this pic. It's hard to see the crack.
