*IF* I were to purchase an L322....

With so many model variants, I have no idea where I'd start.

With my RRC tempting me to send it down the hill in a ball of fire, I thought... " What could be worse?" and then chuckled to myself, at the thought of a D3/4/L322..

But I should give it a considered thought, rather than be wholly dismissive.

So what better place to ask for informed opinions !

Knowing what you know about your L322... and (possibly) If you were to revisit the idea of purchasing again, which would you choose?

Also, wouldn't mind knowing what you've had to sort out along the way...

    cheers!

    I really like my 2003 L322.
Beautiful BMW 6cylinder (which is still produced to this day, with upgraded bits and pieces to it),****ty GM box (mines fine after Rhys rebuilt it).
Apart from the usual wear and tear items (brakes, hoses etc oh and g/box fluid change every 20000k's) I dont really spend alot on it.
The later ones when the TDV8's came in do have more maintenance/$$$$$ on them from what I've gleaned over the years from both on here
and "fullfatrr.com " (english RR site). Yes they are more powerful, but if you do the k's they can be expensive to repair.
Everyone will have different opinions as to what is the better RR,but for me the early ones (diesel NOT the V8 lol) are the best.
Look forward to the comments/opinions from the good folk that have RR's or even the D3/4.

    cheers

I have a 2003 model. I’d like the later model electronics but that might mean moving to a worrisome engine. I think the 2005 still used the BMW engines but not BMW X5 electronics.

The worry with the BMW M62TUB 4.4l V8 is/are the timing chain guides. But, being built for Land Rover, they feature Land Rover’s patented anti-rusting system.

Don't test drive a 4.4 TDV8 if you don't want to spend the money to buy one.

Yes the CVD shocks are expensive but if you really wanted to they can be replaced with the conventional MY07 TDV8 shocks.

I'm seriously more concerned about the body control module and stuff like steering column lock issues etc.

    Perhaps I need to reconsider?

I'm a bit partial to the m62, but the m54 would be preferable for my requirements... finding one.... another story.

Dont think the early ones came with the M54 (petrol), think you mean M57 (diesel).

I'd hate to have to work on or pay someone to work on a TDV8 engine. You'd need deep pockets.
