    Bugga!

Finally got a call from the automatic specialist, he was still sitting in my L322 after test driving. He's happy with it, I can pick it up Monday.
Two hours later he calls back, is there any trick to the ignition key? He was going to put the car away and the key won't turn.
Yes it's the right key, it wasn't removed after the test drive.
    Anyone enlighten me, please?

Hi Ian and for a short term fix, get the mechanic to disconnect the battery.

Leave it off for a minute or two, then reconnect and try the key.

Note you will only get one shot and will need to repeat the above each time you start the motor.

You can do the same thing by removing one of the fuses on the passenger side fuse panel.

I am not sure as it was a long time ago that I had to do this to mine, but I think it is either fuse 17 or 31.

Hopefully someone with the correct fuse number can post it up and this is easier than continually disconnecting the battery.

I have a memory of Mario posting something about this some years ago, but I can't find it. You may get some help here.

Hi Ian and as I posted, it was some time ago and I need to remember what I did.

BUT, when it happened to my L322, after working out which fuse needed to be removed and put back, I set up a relay powered from the same circuit the door locks were on and it simply went open circuit when I locked the L322 and powered the fuse when the doors were unlocked.

Worked fine and if I was going to be parked somewhere that was not so safe, I simply removed the fuse.

So even if some a'hole stole the key, No good to them.

The proper fix is somewhat expensive and I never bothered.

When the key on ours wouldn`t turn i fitted an emulator that i had bought a few years prior just incase this happened .

Don`t remember alot about it other than it was plug and play , take the shroud off the column and plug it in .

It`s still there and working , if the BECM doesn`t wake up the key won`t turn either .

I do remember it came from Europe maybe Italy and was around $100 au landed .

edit : this link shows the one fitted but as written i got it from Europe and was a third of their price .

Now disconnecting and reconnecting the battery doesn't work. What next?
