Where in Sydney are you? I have the genuine LR Testbook (T4) computer diagnostic system.

Have you registered your vehicle VIN and the GAP IID with GAP in Canada? https://www.gap-diagnostic.com/register/

Re the Message Centre pixels, one can replace the flexible connector strip to fix that. I did mine but it's not recommended for the ham-fisted.

Also good to point out that only the G3 supports that car, not the G4.

Not sure if this pertains to a RR but this fault sounds similar to what can happen to D3/4 of the same model years as the OP, when the brake light switch becomes faulty.

The car is in Marrickville at the moment. It only has 170k kms so not too bad. I found a recent receipt replacing the VANOS seals so hopefully mechanically ok.

The GAP tool is the IID Tool BT version G2 as far as I can tell as it just says 'IID Tool BT' with no version number. I've paid for a new license but it should still connect anyhow and read codes without a license from what I can tell.

Ironically the new LCD screen turned up today but not much use without the car!

I hope it's as simple as a brake switch but somehow doubt it.

The other thing to mention is that when the suspension did temporarily work after replacing the strut, the ride control indicated it was on the off-road setting but from outside it just appeared normal. Attempting to lower the suspension from 'off road' to regular would not complete and the regular height LED would continue flashing but the offroad height LED would stay lit. If you didn't cancel the operation, again it would kill the air suspension. I pulled the glovebox fuse for the air suspension but after replacing it, the ride level console doesn't light up anymore after replacing the fuse and I'm assuming I'm going to need a scanner to reset a code. The relay and the compressor are also new, the seller said the compressor is new but hasn't been calibrated (guessing since the strut wasn't holding air).

I’m not sure that’s true about only the G3 supporting the older L322. I have 2 GAP tools, one BT and one non-BT which I can use on my 2003 L322. I’ll have to check but I’m certain neither is G3.

For the OP, you can also operate the tool with a laptop connected via a USB cable. I had to do that with my non-BT tool until I did the pixel fix repair and could use the Message Centre.

I should have said, "of the currently available models, only the G3 supports that vehicle".

I have no idea on older models, other than I think they offered an upgrade/trade in program a few years ago.

They did. I was offered a trade-in of my non-BT for a BT model. I didn't think it was worth it to me. I'll be selling my BT unit shortly and I'll keep the non-BT.

Okay it turns out it was the brake pedal sensor that was faulty. It was basically impossible to remove from the bracket because the electronics had swollen inside the plastic packaging due to moisture I guess. After replacing there's no more warning lights and I had the air suspension reset by a mechanic.

Now the suspension pumps up but the heights definitely need calibrating. At off road height it's still very low which is the only way you can drive it and when it gets to 50km/h it tries to lower but ends up on the bump stops and doesn't register the lowering as completing, so I guess that's why there was a suspension exhaust valve error stored.

Super frustrated the used GAP IID tool doesn't work since i could easily sort out myself. I tried the tool on another LR defender 2004 model and had the same issue (didn't connect to any systems, didnt detect VIN). It did register when connected to a 2015 discovery but couldn't download the faults. I'm guessing I should go back to the seller and ask for a refund. The mechanic's scan tool did connect to the air suspension system though.

If anyone is around the Newcastle area to help with calibrating that would be amazing. I can also check if my tool does/doesn't connect to any other car. I'd hate to buy another new one for $1k to find out it doesn't work.
