2003 Td6
Hi,
Still car hunting. I have looked at a Disco 3. 4.0SE. New at $60000.
Looked around on carsales.com and drive.com for Land Rovers of equal price and come across a couple of TD6's Range Rovers.
What is the general opinion of this model Range Rover?
How does it compare off roading?
How does it perform? Fuel economy....hill climbing....etc
Wheres me cup holder?
So I guess the real question is Disco or Rangie??
O and why?
Cheers Chilly

Some 2003 RRs were sold with a 5 year warranty and these are the ones to get as they will still have possibly 6 -9 months warranty left on them. Mine has been pretty reliable with nothing serious going wrong but it has been back to the dealer to get a number of smallish things fixed under warranty, like the digital dash display losing pixels, a door handle that wouldn't open, and a new air suspension compressor because the old one was very sluggish when lifting to the highest level.
Mileage is 11L/100 around town down to 8.5 to 9L/100 out on the highway. If you treat them very very badly I have seen it drop to 14L/100 but that is constant fanging.
They are a superb drive. The diesel has plenty of power but you're looking at 2.5 tonnes of steel so corners are best taken in a leisurely fashion. We take ours to the snow (from Adelaide) and it loves that sort of driving. Back seats are huge and huge luggage capacity.
2 cup holders in the front! one on the left passenger side and one in the console next to the handbrake.
Offroading ability is supposed to be fantastic but we only use ours on the beach and around the farm (got a 110 for other stuff).
I reckon they are extremely good value these days, at around $55K to $65K depending upon Kms and accessories. You get a LOT of car for your money.

This is an American link, but gives an overview of the 2003 onwards RR:
Mk III Range Rover L322
They had trouble in the US with the early models doing front diffs, and a couple of people I know have had a new one fitted by LR at no cost even when out of warranty. By now they should have been done on the ones you are looking at.

No worries. If you've got more questions just ask away.
