Redarc Tow Pro install on a L405 RR TDV6 MY13

    Hi everyone

I've done a search on the above and am well covered on Discos and older model Rangies but not the new beast arriving next week. Wifey wants to go camping on Melb cup weekend (not this but the next one) so I've a whole 5 days to get this sorted.

Has anyone installed the above to their L405 and if so was it straight forward enough for someone with a crimper and soldering iron to do?

If not, can anyone recommend an auto elec or RR specialist in Melbourne that knows their way around these things and won't leave me with a car throwing fault codes halfway to somewhere after the install? Also considering an Anderson plug to keep the fridge in the camper cold if it's not too taxing on the Rangie.

Sorry if this has been done to death on the L405 but I had a boy look and couldn't find anything. Excuse my ignorance if the Disco 4 or RRS are exactly the same process and I could have looked there. Last time I did an install of this it was on a Navara ute :-o and it came with all the pre plugged wiring and was plug n play. Redarc don't do one for the RR but I have read the "Ford" one may work - anyone had any real life experience with this?

    Thanks in advance
    Darryl

Hello and good luck with the new purchase. I had Peter Sneig at MLR docklands fit mine to my L494. It was initially fitted by the dealer where I bought the car in Geelong. Peter came to the rescue and I have been going there for service ever since. In fact yesterday was the latest service.
    cheers Alan

The connector just near the brake pedal is the one known as the Ford connector and is the same connector fitted to the L494 RRS and L462 Disco (D5). A plug with pig-tails is produced by Tekonsha (Towpower 78054 Ford/LR adaptor lead) that can be purchased from various sources including Amazon.

    Ah help?

    Hi. Me again

Received the ford plug from amazon. Fits perfectly. Didn’t fit the tow pro but some wire cutting a soldering sorted that and my tongue told me there was power coming from that port.

Anyway. Tow pro dial not lighting up and “breathing” green and blue.

Thought maybe just ignores everything til trailer hooked up.

Hooked up camper trailer tonight and lights work BUT brakes on camper seem locked on.

Unplugged tow pro and all good. Then plugged it in unit again and brakes on camper are on hard.
Any suggestions or help greatly appreciated! Going away this cup weekend so would need a late Friday night auto lec that knows their stuff or good instructions here.

    Thanks in advance everyone.

Darryl -a very VERY happy rr owner. Wifey is coming around too.

What does the Tow Pro instruction booklet say for these lights alternating?

Blue 75%, Green 25% of the time - out of calibration. Follow the instructions to calibrate.

    Thanks Graeme

I had a good chat to Cam at Redarc whom was super helpful, and a quick call to Peter at Melbourne LR had me speaking directly to him for 5 mins. Peter said that unit only calibrates when trailer is attached but with brakes hard on that'd make for a fun trip around the block!

I thought the coloured wiring was correct but sending the wrong volts to the tow pro unit. i.e. blue should be brake sending but was power and red should be lights but was brake sending, white did seem correct in earth and finally black should be power but was tail lights.

What is happening is even with no trailer hooked up and no brake pedal engaged, that brake sending wire is getting 8 volts so that would activate camper brakes like it did last night.

I will have another crack in the morning and advise.

At one stage the redarc dial was fast flashing blue which means unstable power source which would suck as that may be an issue with vehicle when it came built...

Thanks for the tip on the Amazon Ford pug, I changed the ends so it would fit the tow pro with soldering so that may be the problem too. Don't really know.

    Thanks for your sage advice
