I had a look at it when it was in Geelong a couple of weeks back.
- It's big! With a big bum.
- A lot of technology in it. Some a bit over the top, but most pretty useful.
- It has gone upmarket from the D3/ D4. I reckon the new Defender will slot in under it.
- Electric everything, including the third row seats.
- The big tailgate with the flap for the tailgate parties worked for me. I'd like to have seen a similar setup on the Disco Sport.
- Some of the videos I have seen seem to show that the D5 is pretty capable off road.
While I was there another couple were looking, and placed a deposit on a new one.
It looks pretty capable and comfortable to me. But it is complex, and complexity costs to run and maintain.
Did I say it's big?

Why doesn't it get the 225kW 700Nm V6 in the Velar and RRS?
Also why make the fuel tank smaller for the 4 cylinder?
Just two things that could help make a decision on which engine you'd buy...
I did have one on order, but cancelled, will keep the D4 for a couple more years....
Had a look at the HSE Luxury spec on Friday. Very nice fit and finish and now a RR by a different name. Interesting to note in this 4 cylinder version the battery is not in the engine bay. Not a lot of room for a second battery even under the bonnet of this one with a lot of plastic in the engine bay making up the crush zones as well. So looks challenging to find a spot to get a bracket in for the second battery as well. But room for a compressor if you need.
Will be keeping the D4 for as long as I can as I don't need a car. I reckon the market for low km D4 will be strong amongst us 4WD users

Graeme I let the salesperson find it which was interesting as an experience in product knowledge. Clearly 99% of purchasers don't care. As an ex road service manager for an auto club it is always something of interest. I reckon the second battery for these will end up being LifePO4 so it can fit under the folding seats. I had a decent look at them and with the electricals the look rather challenging to remove at this point. But I am sure there will be creative souls prepared to go where no one else has gone before them

Hi guys,
I was up in Lithgow Sat morning 9am driving down the main shopping street and spotted a white HSE 3.0 D5 parked!
Had to go up and have a sticky beak at it, spoke to the driver a LRA employee.
Getting some k's on it he said drove up from the Central Coast on the way to Parkes for the weekend.
5 on board with his wife in the third row to test them!
He loved the vehicle, but of course he should say that.
Looked smaller in the flesh to me.
