Hmm well you know where your taste buds are don't you? The rear roof line and the back end just do not look right - looks like a scaled up Disco Sport with a D4 rear roof line grafted on the get height at the rear of the interior.

The car was clearly designed by a couple of committees working independently of each other - and world wide sales reflect it woeful look.

Getting the D4 was great when there weren't that many around. People acknowledged each other at the lights, you even got a friendly wave at times in the city. Then one day driving over the harbour bridge into the city I counted 7 D4 around me all going in the same direction on the bridge and the exclusivity wore off, the waves disappeared and in the city they became common as muck.

But it's back in the D5, acknowledging each other at the lights, windows down and a quick chat. We D5 owners are a social bunch, we don't want too many of them around yet as the waves and chats will just disappear the same way as with the the D4.

I’m pretty sure the SVX version of the D5 was cancelled.

It sort of grows on you, like changes to any vehicle.

From every angle but the rear view,i don't think its that bad.

That SVX is probably the best looking D5 i have seen. Now if they just centered the number plate,it would be even better.Like the Disco Sport.

Oh,and a split tailgate would be nice,i love the D4 set up.

I got an unofficial confirmation of this today(called a dealer) brexit unknowns and china sales dip have caused JLR to pull back on all non essential models etc.

Im sure it will be back, but for now its shelved Discovery SVX.

I guess its up to the aftermarket now to come up with the goods

Is Lucky 8 the only mob doing stuff for the D5?

I believe APT off-road in Brisbane are working on accessories too, but there's nothing on their website yet.

Ben from APT bought a D5 a while ago. He had it at Cooma and is indeed working on accessories, but I don’t know where he’s at.

My dealer told me as such today when I went to test drive the SD6.

    PS: I like the SD6

While the D5 SVX would be fantastic, LR have really lost the plot if they think they can justify a $200K D5 by making it more off road capable.

This should just be an "off road pack" you can order based on the standard discovery...any engine too. forget all of the jazzed up crap they added as a part of it coming out of SVO. DOn't need any of the bling, those should be part of the "other" packs. You could start with the povo disco and add the "off road pack" for say 20K and be done with it....super capable vehicle without the fuss and outrageous price tag.

Anyone with the money to buy one of those and wants to take it off road will spend it on something else....I reckon.
    Cheers,

I believe most of what was on the SVX will be on the new defender anyway, there was actually a large amount of changes and offroad specific mods visually, software and hardware, not just the visual offroad pack type stuff other brands add on, the svx gear would have been very hard to just add on to a D5 when you look into what it was getting.

I think the SVX was going to be hand built by SVO

Could they dial it down and just do some of the SVX gear, yes, and im sure we will see some of it trickle onto future d5 models, or a resurrection of the SVX disco after brexit is sorted.

If someone had 200k and wanted a capable and comfortable offroader with good looks and an SV8 there are not many other options, it would have sold just like RRS sell and RRV sell, but JLR obviously have to watch their spend at the moment.
