Laser 4720 UHF CB On Glass UHF CB Antenna

I will probably try it soon
I have one of these on my windscreen and it works well. HOWEVER, I’m about due for my second new windscreen in 18 months (I’ve posted about the D5 windscreen earlier). You then need to either take off and restick the aerial which looks daggy or buy a new aerial. Not expensive but a nuisance. Perhaps if it was on the rear window...
I think I’ll see what the best option is for an external mount.

    Glass mount uhf antenna

had my D4 bracket mounted off the left front hood, but apparently they can’t do this with the D5.

Not keen on a glass mount unit. My 2018 D5 has the dynamic pack, so has the black honey comb grille with no slots to feed a bracket thru the grille, so that’s out too.

    any ideas please or pictures.

    thanks
Laser 4720 UHF CB On Glass MOUNT UHF CB Antenna STICK ON. It is mounted on the inside of the glass. Excellent for people who do not want to mount a uhf antenna on the outside of the vehicle.
I have mine on rear window of my new disco. Works a treat. Much better performance than i expected.
No external whip to hang up on. Just a small vertical strip dipole
It cost me about $60 from Prestige if i recall

More on laser 4720 uhf antenna

Laser 4720 UHF CB On Glass MOUNT UHF CB Antenna STICK ON

The Laser clear UHF CB transparent on-glass antenna is an innovation that is a superior alternative to the common on-glass antennas. It is mounted on the inside of the glass. Excellent for people who do not want to mount a uhf antenna on the outside of the vehicle.

The Laser Clear* transparent antenna is an innovation bought about by the need for discreet and high performance antennas used on wireless communication systems.

Since its original conception as a UHF (460MHz) antenna for unmarked police vehicles, this planar and transparent antenna, designed to be mounted inside the windshield, has been engineered to give exceptional broad-band performance. The design can be adapted to any 20MHz bandwidth in the 390 ~ 520MHz frequency band.

Its patented construction uses a conductive element on a clear and flexible substrate. The proprietary connector interfaces the antenna with RG174 coaxial cable for flexible installation ease.

    TRANSPARENT
hence virtually invisible. Using our patented and proprietary manufacturing procedure, which forms a conductive circuit on a clear polyester backing.

    THEFT & VANDAL PROOF
being mounted on the inside of the windshield there is no opportunity for theft or vandalism. No problems with wind noise or car wash problems.

    EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE
compared to currently available “on-glass” wire antennas, superior performance in the order of 2~3dB is achieved through the geometry of the printed circuit artwork and the direct connection of the antenna to the coaxial cable as against the through glass capacitive coupling used by external “on-glass” antennas.

    MULTI FUNCTION
the versatility of this antenna has found its way into a multitude of applications including but not limited to – trunking radio systems, Citizens Band Radio, data monitoring stations, vehicle tracking.

    Features

UHF CB, Trunking and Scanner applications
    Power Rating: 25 watts
    2.5dbi gain
    ground independent
    covert - hence vandal proof
No wind noise or car wash problems
Maximum efficiency due to direct connection to cable as against through glass coupling
Includes: 1m RG 174 with FME female and 3m RG58 low loss double sheild coax with FME Male and FME female at each end, also PL259 adaptor.
I have notice asking price now has soared close to $200 online

On a recent club trip I put my UHF antenna on the front cross bar using a Rhinorack fold-down mount, the antenna lead down into the car in between the roof and rear door rubber. Excellent signal with the antenna that high up, but I took it off again after the trip as even with the fold down bracket on top of the roof bar and the car in access mode I'd be close to 2.10m high, high enough to feel uncomfortable in some car parks.

I decided the easiest and cheapest way out was to buy a new Laser aerial and put it on when I replace the windscreen yet again. Otherwise it will be a rewiring exercise to move it to the rear.
Found one for $55 by ringing around. Other places told me they don’t make them anymore, even though they still feature on the Laser website.

Try a number plate nudge bar

Off eBay about $20, I’ve had a GME AS5002 on a D2 which worked well. I’ll do same for D5. Another alternative is GME AS5003. Google them. The number plate option is

Does the 2018 D5 have the spare on the rear door?

If so I saw a Discovery 1 some time ago where the bloke (or woman ) had used a couple of the bolts holding the Spare bracket on & extended a piece of plated metal up between the spare tyre & the door panel. Extended high enough it would have a good Ground Plane from the roof, imho. Ant. Cable could have gone through the roof lining or around the gutter.

If it doesn't, sell the car & get a D1.

Thanks LR, it must be an interesting recovery exercise if bogged down to the axles.

I really haven't kept pace with Land Rovers & the various models of late due mainly to what appears to be a plethora of models & types recently available so please excuse my higorance guv.

I promise I will try harder.
