I had to tweak the existing brackets by about 10mm to get them in a line. I started with 250kgs slide rails but they where to high 75mm, i dropped back down to the 175kgs ones as there only 50mm high. i get access to the spare tyre windy thing through the back hatch, saves me sliding out to get access and ended up being a really good spot for keeping tools.IMG_2751.jpgIMG_2752.jpg

OK, here's what I did. I did not want to fiddle with the spare wheel winder so I made a base up which stops short of the lift up hatch at the back, retaining access to the winder and to the useless scissor jack that I keep under there. The 40l Engel and cage fit well and are bolted to the base. There is room to store something at the back if I need to - just means shifting it to slide the fridge out. No big deal.
I have a platform next to it on 25x25mm modular furniture framing and held down by turnbuckles. This was cutdown from the one I made for my D4. It runs full length from the seat backs to the rear door and takes the box with our inflatable kayak on it, held down with straps to the eye bolts. All carpeted including under the ply base and over the rear hatch to the winder. I found when I came to sell the D4 that this carpet protected the original boot lining perfectly (not that it improved the terrible resale price!).
I was originally going to put the dual battery in the side next to the fridge but it would take up useful space (where I keep the first aid kit) so I took off the third row headrests, carpeted the well and used the space to store the second battery and rescue gear. Behind the centre row passenger seat is the Yellow Top D31A 75Ah battery lying on its side in a Projecta box. It took a while to find one that fitted as most boxes have protrusions to allow cable entry/exit. The battery is wired up using a Traxide DBS and has a CTEK sensor so I can keep track of the charge. The rescue gear is behind the driver's side seat.
So far it is all working well.

Been working on a a relatively simple solution for this. 12mm ply sheet cut to 1050 x 1050 then another 7mm cut to 440x955 to replace the flip up piece that I removed (2 small screws). I then cut a hole in both sheets, lined them up and glued them together. Lastly, I cut a template out of boot liner carpet from Bunnings. Coming along nicely and it means I can use the full boot and still get to the screw to drop the spare if needed without unpacking anything.

Also I only plan on putting this in for camping trips so I drilled holes in each corner of the main ply and will just fix it in place to the LR boot rings with some heavy duty cable ties. I got my rubber boot mat custom made for the D5 from Rubbertree so it was easy to cut the the template of the Bunnings roll carpet off that. I won’t be attaching a fridge slide to mine at this point but will attach some D rings to hold the fridge and battery down.

Made this drawer system in both the D4 and now the D3 and works really well. I know some places like Drifta do drawers but you have to open and remove one drawer to access the winch for the spare. I just made mine smaller to accommodate the extension rod outside the drawer and hence no need to remove the drawers to get to the spare. Just think this is far easier option. maybe something similar can be done with the D5.

Side note : worked well with the D4 7seater, and now D3 5seater.

This is my latest solution. This is just a mock up to see if it suits my needs. The fridge will be on a slide but at the moment its all in to prove concept. I can still access that panel to get to the spare tyre and now have a place to store my table chairs and ladder.
