One way to find out if its operational, but could be embarrassing.

There are 2 levels at which AEB works. One option is to still allow you to have a head on accident but slows you down before you do, the other is where it would do it’s best to avoid you having a head on accident.

Seems you have the latter. The system beeps to alert you of a potential danger coming up first giving you a chance to react. If you don’t the. It will brake on your behalf.

I’ve only felt the system hitting the brakes before I did once in the 2 years I’ve had my D5

The system beeps frequently in my car on one particular windy road which isn’t very wide, has lots of cars parked along it.

MLR used and inflatable Kangaroo to test it at pre-delivery.

After speaking to the Service Manager he has arranged to have the system checked in a couple of weeks time - I will report back on the results.

Landrover are telling me they can find nothing wrong with the system despite the fact that it has never made a sound or applied the brakes. Ron can you tell me how often your system will beep etc at you in normal driving. Would it be like once a day, a week or a month. I just cannot believe that mine does and says nothing ever in 35000 km of driving but apparently is working normally.

Mine beeps on average once every 3-4 weeks, but always on the same road. It is likely that the bends in this road with parked cars along it cause the system to alert like a nervous passenger, as at times it looks like you're heading straight for a parked car.

Maybe do as Tombie mentioned MLR do, get a blow up roo, take it to an empty car park and drive at it at 50km/h. That should trigger AEB. If not, I guess it isn't working.

Trust me, it works. A couple of weeks ago I was on Epping Rd heading home. I thought I was reasonably spaced from the traffic in front in my lane, but it had slowed down (a little). I decided to change lanes...
In the time it took me to look over my shoulder to check the next lane and look back, my lane had stopped completely and suddenly. Before I could even get my foot on the brake pedal the AEB alarm went off and it hit the brakes in an emergency stop. I could feel feedback through the pedal. I thought for sure I was going to tail-end the guy in front, but it stopped over a car length short.
That saved me from having my first at-fault prang in over 40 years of driving/riding.

yes it works, mine has worked when a van with no working brake lights came to an abrupt stop, my foot was chasing the brake pedal as slower reaction time. as for alerts etc depends on driving style if you drive normal and allow plenty of space it will never give any warnings, drive more aggressively it will let you know.
