Gimmick 4wd options ..what do they mean

    Hi All,

getting a bit confused on the various “4wd” options on the new discovery build sheet and looking for help to try and understand them a bit more.

2 items I would be getting are the twin speed transfer box and active rear lock differential.

I mainly do outback touring and desert stuff rather than the forest up and down hills 4wding....

    then I get lost.

if I option nothing else do I still get terrain response , ie the dial. Mud,sand, gravel etc .?

then we have the Options of

All Terrain Progress Control - i think this just adds a sort of off road cruise control ?

Terrain Response 2 - I think this just adds an “auto sense” to the terrain response so the car picks rather than you ?

Configurable Terrain Response - I think this just allows you to setup some additional user preset terrain settings, if you don’t like the Land Rover ones

Is my understanding above correct .....as these options all come with additional the price creeps up quickly.

    Darren

If you are going to order a car then the standout option off road wise is the ediff.

Relatively cheap & will help with resale as they are not that common.

I ended up buying a stock car SDV6 HSE as the price was more than $20k cheaper than if I bought the same car on order.
    Cheers

I was just reading the latest LRO and for the 2021 model the ediff is part of the "Capability Pack"

Also interesting that no more turning knob, it s like the Defender with a pistol grip, and no more V6s>

Darren, my understanding of the options is as per your summary. Can’t help with relative benefits of those options as haven’t driven a vehicle with them but my strong feeling is that all you need is the transfer case (to have low range) and locking rear ediff. The standard Terrain Response system is more than good enough for desert touring etc. The optional systems are more aimed at automating the terrain response performance rather than actually operating better than standard terrain response and I would personally be putting money towards other things. However a low range transfer case and ediff would be mandatory inclusions for me.

    Cheers,

Yes you do get Terrain Response. There is Terrain Response 2 as an optional extra

Correct. I believe you can use the cruise control buttons to increase and decrease speed

The auto setting is indeed so the car picks whatever settings it thinks best.

Indeed, but I'm not sure what exactly is configurable.

See the owner's manual on terrain response here
And All Terrain Progress Control here
