Hunting mode

Hi all,

Been around the forum for a short while and have picked up some great info. Thought I'd share something I came across in the L462 Workshop manual that might be handy for those of you who use the Discovery for camping / touring. I have a fridge and kitchen set up in the back of mine running off a second battery and find the main battery drains pretty fast due to having the boot open quite a bit (thank you LR for low battery mode!). Here is the procedure to continuously turn off the interior lights, otherwise known as Hunting mode. I might add I have just come across this and have not had a chance to test it myself as my car is being repaired (to the tune of $50k), that's another story though!

CONTINOUS OFF - HUNTING MODE

To prevent drain on the battery if the doors are to remain open for some time (or for customers to prevent the interior lighting illuminating when unlocking the vehicle – Hunting Mode), the interior lamps automatic operation can be turned off. This is stored in the BCM/GWM assembly and is also activated following a system power down or a reset of the BCM/GWM assembly.

To enter the continuous off (Hunting mode) condition, the front interior lamp switch must be pressed and held for more than 3 seconds. The courtesy lamp will flash to confirm this. The continuous off function can only be disabled by pressing and holding the front interior lamp for more than 3 seconds, full automatic control is resumed. When continuous off is active, the rear interior lamp switch can still be used to switch the rear interior lamp only on or off. When continuous off mode is active, the front interior lighting can still be manually activated.

Good info,D4 was the same.

I also took the bulbs out of the puddle lights and footwell lights.

But whenever i hooked up the Gap tool,it told me the puddle and footwell lights were faulty

We found the main battery drain was the vehicle 'waking up' everytime the door was opened.

I disabled interior lights on my D4 then L322 to stop an inrush of mozzies when a door is opened. I also leave the driver's door ajar to prevent the regular wake-ups.

Yes the same procedure in the D3/D4/RRS - but realistically there is more to battery drain than internal lights staying on - with a 95aH battery it should take a long, long time for the internal lights to drain the battery. Ideally LR should have added a function to permanently put car systems to sleep if required when parked up.

Yeah I have read opening the doors kick starts a few systems within the car which would draw a lot more amps than just the lighting. I like that idea of keeping a door ajar, having said that the boot is usually open for extended periods of time while at camp. I agree too the LED lighting would be drawing bugger all really. I've had to start our car numerous times while at camp so was hoping this trick might help a little on the next venture. Might have to look at installing a third battery

I only wish it also stopped the main screen lighting up as well
