Thread: Bluetooth connectivity in 2017 D5

I made a video of the cycle I have to go through to connect to Bluetooth. After numerous cycles the phone will connect ...most times not. So the stages are:
1. Phone Connects
2. Phone Disconnects after varying periods of time....usually less than a minute
3. BT disappears from 'Source' selection
4. BT appears on 'Source' selection list aftedr 10/15 secs.
5. Bluetooth is selected
6. Phone reconnects
Weirdly, after several cycles, the phone connected appropriately.....but this is not the norm. I then have to resort the deleting the phone from the car, unpairing the phone then going through the connection process. Pretty annoying when driving and not resolved when you pull over and try to get it back on track. The process usually lasts until the next day after double locking the car for a complete rest overnight when the same process has to be repeated.
Any similar problems in D5.....Solutions???? Pretty poor response from JLR when the GPS was not updated and used the excuse "Everyone uses their phone these days'.

Have you tried connecting someone elses phone to see if its a phone issue?

Has your phone got the latest OS? Did you do an update recently?

Also, Check with dealer that there isnt an update for the In Car system...

We've had a couple of phones connected over time but the issue has been there for a while. Previous phones...Samsung S20FE and Samsung A11. We now have S23's but only one is connected.
We have software 19c but I believe the latest update is 21B . The diagnostics identify an problem but no specific error code (apparently). Can't get in for a check until October but postponed until November due to an upcoming trip.
Yesterday I watched the 'Source list' cycle through about 7 times over a period of 5 minutes with 'Bluetooth' appearing and disappearing that many times. After about 10 minutes of this, bluetooth finally settles and a consistent connection is maintained.

The latest information is that our 2017 D5 does not have an IMC ( Infotainment Control Unit) as it has the base InControl Touch audio system which has an ACM (Audio Control Module) aka an AHU (Audio Head Unit). The vehicle has been updated to the 19c version of the software which is as far as this vehicle will respond to. If it had been fitted with the InTouch Control Pro, we'd be able to update further to 21a. My question is ...Should this difference in hardware/software make any difference to the connectivity of phones to the vehicle's Bluetooth system. The fact that we can't update beyond v. 19c is potentially being used as an excuse for the Bluetooth not working reliably. As mentioned in previous posts, the vehicle Bluetooth system cycles through a sequence for about 10 minutes of travelling before connecting continuously but then repeats this loop whenever we depart the vehicle and re -start.

I have tried other Bluetooth devices and the same non-connectivity issues remain.

Is there a solution to the problem?

The irony is that, when we had issues with the non-availability of map updates over the past 5 years, JLR Australia told us the there shouldn't be a problem because, these days, everyone uses their phones.

I'm hoping there's a technician out there who can cast light on the situation as it has been ongoing for too long.

I know it may not help much but could you attempt connecting with an IOS device to perhaps see if it is operating system related. Might help with being able to say it is not just an Android/Samsung issue pointing more to hardware.

To me that sounds like a glitchy bluetooth antenna or one that is shrouded by solid materials - both signal related.

Thanks for the reply. i don't have access to an Apple device but I have connected a different Bluetooth capable device and the same problem of intermittent connectivity remains. I don't know if you viewed the video (posted earlier in this thread) of the sequence we experience during the first 10 mins of attempting to connect. The Bluetooth drops off the 'Source' screen then reappears only to drop off and reappear in a cycle up to 10 times over that 10 min period. A friend in Corporate LR suggests that it might relate to a loose connection in the Bluetooth system. We going to suggest that to our dealer when they finally realize that our vehicle does not have an IMC (Infotainment Master Controller) module. IMO that should have been picked up when they had the vehicle specs in front of them....a waste of time trying to update software for a module that doesn't exist in our vehicle.

The latest news on Bluetooth connectivity in our 2017 D5....After persistent badgering of JLR Australia, they came up with a 'possible' solution to the issue. They replaced the AHU (LR116709) found under the front passenger seat. It worked!! We now have connectivity to 2 Samsung S23s with full audio, phone connection and GPS audio. If you look up the part number, you'll understand why JLR were not falling over themselves to fix the problem across the board....about $AUD 5000 for the part. Because we notified our dealer back on 2020 while the vehicle was under warranty the issue was fixed under warranty. So much for all of the other excuses that were offered like blaming the phone companies for modern technology, newer versions of Bluetooth etc. The bottom line was, once again, money.
