    Just having a sniff round

Just looking at the prospect of a new Discovery 5. There seems to be a lot of 2 litre ones around.
So, the question is do all of these 2 litre ones have this mild hybrid function and is it any use for mainly regional/country driving?
As we have a van of 2.6 t GTM I would like a 3 litre 6 cylinder, so when did they go from a V configuration to a straight 6 and have the problems of the older 6's been resolved.
Are there still fuel pump belts etc that still need to be changed on a regular basis.
Are there any inherent problems with the new D 5's
I have looked through here but mainly see the older D 5's.
I love my D4 and really just wish to get another Landy before they go silly and go E.V. only.
    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to the Forum group.

Thankfully, the 2 litre is no longer an option. They are all now inline 6 cylinder 3 litre with "mild hybrid 40 Volt system".

When the Disco 5 first came out I looked at the ads with the 2 litre towing a big caravan and thought, "You have to be kidding!!!". It has proven to be like the 3 litre Patrols - a hand grenade waiting to explode.

When I looked under the bonnet of the V6 I could see they planned on going to an inline 6 as there is a lot of space between the V6 and the radiator.

I got my Sd6 SE in late 2019 and it has been fabulous. Those who have had an Sd6 and replaced it with the inline 6 all claim it is even better...

As to maintenance, I have no idea. Land Rover have just serviced mine on a service plan - I have one service to go.

The timing chains in both the 4 and the early 6 (petrol) engines weren't up to the task but it appears that MY19 engines all had the heavier timing chains. The D300 in the D5 appeared in MY22 but the D300 & D350 were fitted to MY21.5 (Jan22) L405, being several months earlier.
The engines have a main bearing between each big-end so the crankshaft can't flex under resonance. They have a variable-displacement oil pump and ecu-managed oil pressure which sounds good.

Thanks for that, I am still not convinced that the type of driving I do that the mild EV will be an advantage. Will talk to a couple of dealers as I am not ready to move yet.
