Thread: 2014 Range Rover Sport oil leak issue - any advice please

Isn't the oil pump inside the engine? Replace wiring loom sounds a bit suss as well.
Had an issue with the wife's Santa Fe the other day. Fuel filter needed changing but the mechanic said a $270 sensor needed to be replaced instead. (I was away at the time). Replaced switch and problem still there. Finally convinced him to replace filter, and problem went away! The sensor had been sending bad signals because the filter was blocked. Many so-called mechanics today simply follow the cues from the software without actually thinking of the underlying causes. Real easy, when the customer ends up paying for your laziness.

There could be minor leaks around the turbo and the harness entry to the sump for the oil level sensor that are of no significance but the leak at the oil pump which is in the front crankshaft cover could develop into a major problem. The front crank-shaft seal on the TDV6 can work its way out to cause major oil loss and the TDV8 looks to also have the same arrangement where the seal is just pressed into the housing, although I'm not aware this being a problem with the TDV8.

If they say don't drive it then don't.

If something happens while you are driving it after they've told you not to, then you will have absolutely no hope of getting anything done under warranty.

See if you can negotiate a loan car.

I know the workshop manager at a JLR dealer and he mentioned these problems have been occurring when I talked to him about buying a L494 RRS. He also mentioned that the SCV8 has been known to do big ends but he did admit it was mainly customers from a certain ethnic background that had that problem.

I have.

If you are lucky the sensor O ring seal can be replaced without actually needing to remove the sensor ~half hour job. My dealer has done it.

However, removing / replacing the sensor is a fair sized job due to all the other components which require removal first ~half day job.

So try replacing the O ring first.


Edit: just noticed we are not talking about the same engine. Not sure if above comments apply in your case.
