Has the upgrade to MY18 spec been done?
Is anyone else having issues with their media module not recognising their iPhone information? My Rangy is refusing intermittently to connect to my iPhone for calls and also transfer my music and play it on the car stereo. I've had a new module installed and have had the car back 3 times now, to be told that iPhone and Land Rover are having issues with the latest iPhone system software and there is nothing further they can do until Apple and Land Rover sort it out. Meanwhile I'm left with a six figure car that has an intermittent fault. Would love to hear from anyone else that is having the same issues or similar. Thanks.
Has the upgrade to MY18 spec been done?

Hi, thanks so much for your reply. I'm not sure if they did that at the dealership but I believe they tried everything, even installing a new module which apparently cost them $5,000. Well that's the cost of the module according to the service manager.
The upgrade is still being rolled-out in the UK and apparently can be free but some early upgrades were charged. I don't know the details but apparently the MY18 upgrade installs totally different s/w and I certainly don't know if the upgrade solves your current problems.

Don't rule out the phone being the issue. My wifes iphone kept losing BT connection with the car (most likely started happening due to an Apple update ). She ended up with a new iphone some months later and the problem was no more. Note that this is on a '14 Evoque so not 'apples' to 'apples'. Just a thought though. Try other phones in the car and see if the problem persists. PS never had a problem with an Android phone.
Cheers,
Sean

Thanks Sean. I did try another iPhone 6plus (mines an 8plus) and that had the same connection issues. But I’d hate to think I have to change my phone because it doesn’t work in the car. I guess that’s the problem with technology these days. The dealership said it’s an apple/Landrover issue and they’re ‘working’ on it. Another friend in the industry said landrover won’t pay apple a set fee for upgrades and that’s what causes issues.
Yes Land Rover do not like being bent over by other companies in that way. A similar issue exists specifically for Australia where they refuse to pay licensing for the access to the traffic management data our nav systems need to handle route calculations accounting for traffic etc. It's a joke quite frankly.
Totally agree with you that you shouldn't have to change the phone. It's the approach that Apple takes to updates, they need to ensure they are backwards compatible and do not break things when they release updates. Realistically, cars shouldn't have to be updated every time a phone manufacturer does an update. I'm sorry, that comment really doesn't help you,
I guess my initial thoughts were to try to isolate the issue to the car or the phone. Good luck, I hope you get it sorted out soon.
Cheers,
Sean

Thanks Sean. I'm not sure what the next move should be. I've contacted the ACCC to see what my rights are and if they would be interested in researching this issue. It's hard when the company says they can't do anything else because it's an Apple software issue. Especially being a woman, sometimes our 'clout' isn't regarded as much as a mans. I'd love to hear from anyone else is they are having these issues.
Hi Deb, I think these days they will take advantage of anyone who doesn't have a technical background, However i can understand how you feel.
Just a couple of thoughts:
a. Does the connection issue also extend to an Android phone?
b. Ask if they can they roll the software update back to previous known working version?
c. Just to clarify, is the update on your car an installation of Carplay?
- If it is, just check the usb/lighting cable with another one - its sounds silly but its worth a shot
d. If Carplay is installed (knowing that it is buggy), it might be worth just using Bluetooth as your connection to your iphone as a workaround till they get that software sorted.
