Thread: Phone mounting options

Hi

I have used a Windscreen mount from Jaycar to hold my 7 inch Android tablet. It mounts in the centre of my windscreen, as low as possible, and it is angled towards me so it is not too obtrusive. The Android then sites about 5 inches away from the windscreen.

The site Custom mounts and holder solutions for your car, phone and other devices has a number of options for Landrovers depending on the model.

Nothing that won't damage it permanently will stick to perforated leather :-)

It really disgusts me that it's now a thing, that it's somehow now more important that one can use ones phone whilst one is driving, and that, that, is now more important than actually being in charge of the vehicle!!!

The person asked about options with the comment "Sometimes Google maps is a lot better than OEM nav." so they want to use it for nav.
That's a reasonable thing to do whilst driving as it is hands free and perfectly legal when it is mounted correctly. Or they could look at the Gregories or UBD Street on the passenger seat while driving and flip over the pages whilst stopped at traffic lights :-) Take your pick.

I have the ClicOn bracket from Hold My Phone and hard wired power to an adjustable holder. It's set up so the power is permanent so I can charge the phone easily when camping. I've used ClicOn in the last 4 vehicles and have been very happy with the product. I only ever use the factory GPS when off-road and use Waze on my iPhone whenever I'm driving for the hazard warnings speed zones etc.

Some of us use phones as a tool when making a living. I need navigation to get to customer's sites, charging so the phone is available for customer support, emails and access to documents when on-site. Seems pretty relevant to me.

Navigating the Road Safety website to try and find the specific legislation is difficult. This is specific to GPS tablets.

However last year I did come across on their website a more detailed paragraph that also stated that the holder was "commercially available" - that statement mean I could not make one for myself. I had to purchase one at Jaycar.

If anyone can find the ACTUAL LEGISLATION that would be excellent. Saying "doesn't obscure their view" and saying that you should use one that is less than 6 inches for a larger vehicle and less than 5.5 inches for compact vehicles is open to interpretation by both ourselves and the Police. In engineering and science and legally there is a difference between should and must.
