To be effective the filter media needs to be fine. Which means eventually it clogs reducing flow and effectiveness. In a Mann Hummel Provent 200, the filter membrane is to be replaced at 40,000 k. The Provent also has a well set up pressure relief valve. Mann and Hummel know diesel filtration. I suppose pressure relief could be built in, but unless the LR has a replaceable fine filter membrane it's hard to see how it could be particularly effective.

I can't see how any modern TD would not be assisted by a good quality catch can.

Provent is the one I use on my diesels.
I drain it about once a month....... Simple tap under car, and my mechanic checks / cleans it every service.

Like to see where and how one is fitted to the SDV8. No doubt it would be a cheap positive option.
