    SIM Card

    Hi All,

I've come from the Battle Star Galactica ... well D4 compared to the RRS :-). It appears that there is a need for a data SIM Card to get the car "connected" ... something I lived with not having with two D4s. Are the benifts genuine or just a bit of a gimmick?

What are you guys doing?...using, living without it (by-pass to stop pop-ups) or living with the pop-ups?

    Cheers,

    Kev.

    Have a read of this:

    WI-FI Connectivity & Data FAQ's | InControl | Land Rover UK

    Also this one:

    https://www.ownerinfo.landrover.com/.../proc/G2258760

Depending on your options you get varying degrees of remote control of your car like checking its lock status and ability to change it, having the vehicle preheat on a cold morning before you get in, map updates etc etc.

You just need a data SIM. Worth doing I would say given how cheap they can be.
    Cheers,

    Sean

I just can't get this to work. I've successfully set up an In-control account but the system keeps stating that the SIM is unsupported. I'm currently using an Optus data only SIM.

After a bit of Googling, there has been a suggestion that the car may need a retailer software update. I also talked to MR Automotive in Redcliffe QLD. One of their guys is somehow affiliated with JLR and he was saying that obviously the reader could have been damaged by the previous owner but he was also aware that non Telstra SIM cards have been known to be problematic.

So I'm going to change SIM cards and see if that helps.....so frustrating! If not, it's off to the Stealers.

Incidently, remote car start and locking works on Bluetooth, without the SIM card working. I was surprised at how far away the car actually picks up the signal.

That's a bugger. I saw a few different suggestions around things like leaving the SIM in over night, checking that data was enabled on the SIM etc.

This post gives a few different things to try ... it's a bit old so options may differ on your version of Incontrol:

ICTP Mobile Data Connection: "SIM not supported" with Three, Vodafone | Discovery Sport Forum

there's also a suggestion (in that thread) that the SIM readers can fail.

    See how you go.

Otherwise, yep, get the dealer to work it out for you.
    Cheers,

    Sean

    Thanks Sean.

Looks like there are a couple of more things to try before getting gouged ... LOL.

Recomendation of Service Manager at Solitaire Auto Adelaide

When I was picking up my recently acquired, used 2018 RRS after servicing, the service manager told me told it me I would need a combination voice/data sim. I haven't sorted this yet.
