MY14.5 RRS 4.4 HSE Dynamic Diesel Over run & throttle controller

    Hello Everyone,

Last few days when pushing the button to switch the car off, it's kept running for up to 10 seconds then shuddered to a stop....I'm now learning this is called diesel over run.
The LR Garage in SA have told me the following

"We have found the throttle body is currently the cause of the issue and this needs replacing as the electronics of the unit is sealed and has failed internally. It also has a code for the exhaust gas re-circulation valve, and this will be confirmed after the replacement of the throttle body. The cost to the throttle body is $1,263 and hopefully the code will clear the EGR fault after doing the throttle body.

Is this to be believed? could it be simply carbon/soot build up which is keeping the throttle open momentarily before compression reduces in the cylinders & it then stops?

I did have the EGR replaced about 6 months ago, could it be linked as that costs me thousands.

Any tips on how to handle the garage in SA would be welcomed.

    Cheers all
    Matt

Carbon/soot certainly can build-up preventing the throttle plate from closing properly. As the throttle plate is open when not powered it's quite easy to clean the housing. However I'm not so sure that the throttle plate not closing or sealing is the cause of the run-on. My L322's 4.4 doesn't normally close the throttle on engine switch-off (it does now for 15 seconds via an add-on module in case of a failed primary turbo) and the engine requires fuel to run on. Fuel could be oil from excessive oil build-up in the bottom of the IC or from a dribbling injector.

What is the EGR fault code and what was the EGR work done previously?

Why wouldn't the EGR issue be sorted before following any other hunches?

Edit: Prior to fitting my module to close the throttle the engine would be a little rough as compression stopped the crankshaft but since closing the throttle on switch-off the engine immediately becomes smooth, indicating that originally the throttle wasn't being closed.

I can't currently recall the cause but the TDV6 runs-on a little when a particular fault code exists as it was happening to my ex 3.0 D4 that a son now owns, but certainly not a throttle body issue. Fix the problem causing the EGR code!

    Thanks for the reply Graeme,

The ERG was completely replaced last year at great expense so if this is causing the issue then I'll be ****ed & should be covered under warranty.
I've not heard back from Solitaire today & I'm about to chase them up as it seems most people I speak to are suggesting replacing the throttle body isn't the 1st thing they would tackle.
I'm not sure of what fault code was being tripped for the ERG, I'll ask them about this.

    Cheers

My son has recalled that his 3.0 D4 would run-on if the engine was switched off if a fault that had been logged from a restricted performance event from a significant boost leak was still recorded, but that the engine would stop normally if the fault code was cleared before switching off.

I hope that they provide the actual fault code rather than a description.

I've sent two emails, left messages & asked for the error codes but I've still not heard back from Solitaires in Adelaide.
