    Setup for touring

I’ve recently purchased a low kms, second hand 2017 RRS and unfortunately I’m already lamenting the lack of safe storage space when touring. Storage is made even more difficult as the rear seats that don’t fold down flat. My 2011 RRS had storage under the rear seats and it was easy to install a second battery under the bonnet to run a 40 litre fridge mounted in the rear cargo space. The RRS is perfect for my mainly highway travel but I now struggle for space when towing a van or heading off road.

Apart from fitting all terrain tires I’m planning on installing a Titan two drawer system with a fridge slide to stow gear like snatch straps, shackles, tyre repair kit, first aid kit, fire extinguisher, jumper leads etc. etc. I’ll have to workout a secure way to restrain the drawers and will be guided by the advice found in other forums on this site. I’d also install a small roof top-basket for the spare wheel as I’ve already had the experience of having to unpack the car and remove a fridge and slide I’d bolted into the back to change a flat. My second “fridge” battery is about to be installed behind the inside rear drivers side cargo panel.

I’m wondering what other owners have done and what their experience has been before I commit myself.

If you are towing a van, why do you need drawers? My 16.5 Dynamic weighs 3T as it stands, so I cannot add a spare battery, jumper cables, a second tyre and STILL have 285KG's on the ball.. not that I would want to, all that extra weight just makes you get stuck earlier..
Choose your battles wisely.... maybe a real late D4 would be better suited. They tow nearly as well but can carry so much more stuff.

The titan drawers are pretty heavy and ugly, I had to shorten the single drawer I had to fit it. The angle of the seat back makes it hard to fit a double drawer as well. I swapped mine.
I replaced the spare wheel cover with some carpeted ply and installed a fridge slide on one side and a XTM modular drawer on the other.
The XTM is still heavy and has a little less volume than the titan but is much more versatile for me (it has a sliding top and a small table which also slides out). The ply is screwed down at the tie down points and I have the tools in the drawer to remove it. I fitted a platform to the fridge slide that is easily removed for carrying stuff when the fridge isn't installed. There is a tyre repair kit in the drawer and I carry a compressor, a flat tyre will take a little longer to resolve if the spare has to be fitted but in 5 years I've never needed it.
Originally I was going to use a set of Drifta drawers but there was no off the shelf option. I looked at the cost and inconvenience of going to Gloucester and went for this setup instead.

I was going to make a box to fit the fridge slide but this never happened. It would be very practical for carrying recovery gear and other items when needed.
