Trailer Harness ? tow hitch question

    Afternoon,

I am looking at 2015 (MY15.5) SDV6 Range Rover Sport for a bit more self inflicted financial and emotional punishment

Full transparency - over here from the D4 ...dark side...or light side...depends on your view, owning since new a 2011 SDV6 HSE with 450,000kms on the original engine... and yes we love it..but Daughter has take it over...

Basically looking at the above car (because a new one will take for ever and costs a heck of lot, and I cant buy 2 new cars in year apparently) , however need this potential RRS to tow occasionally.

It does not have a tow hitch/bar, or the electrics.

    • Is the trailer harness available and plug and play Or does the car need a few things turned on via IID Tool?
      • (quick search says they are available) - and should I go the Land Rover factory harness?

    • Any views on which tow assembly - factory/Haymen Reece/Other ?

    Thanks

It will tow fine.. should have all necessary wiring hidden away.. square tube style hitch.. a lot less space inside an RRS.

Are you saying all the towing gear is factory fitted but hidden behind the plastic cover??

im asking cause ive looked at 2 cars with the dealers both saying 'there is no factory fitted towing gear on these cars""

I believe they are correct. I checked out the specs for a MY16 and the tow hitch and wiring was a $950 option across the range.

It is easy to see if the vehicle has it fitted, just look at the rear and the hitch and connection and they should be visible. No need to remove the cover like on the D4's. It has a special cut out slot.

I would seek Factory fitted as I have heard some horror stories about after market fitment. Mind you these are stories not my personal experience.

    Hi,

I've MY2019 L494 SE SDV6 and whilst I was aware that my car did not have a tow hitch, I was miffed when I found out that it doesn't have any dedicated rear recovery points, like my old D4. This has got me considering tow hitch options. However, my car definitely has the cabling. When I went to Moreton Is a while ago, I removed the rear cover and wrapped up the loom and connectors to stop them getting caught on anything. Well, I assume they are for a tow hitch as I can't think of anything else that would potentially be fitted there.

It's annoying that LR didn't come up with a standard factory fit but it's bizarre if some cars don't even come with the cables and others do.

Somebody else has posted that they got quoted $950 for hitch and cables .... I'm actually surprised, as I thought it would be a lot more coming from LR.

    Hey mate,

Is there a recovery point on the standard LR hitch that you have, like there was on the D4?

    Cheers,

    Kev.

The $950 was back in 2016 as an option on a new car. Bet that had changed as I also got quoted over $2000 for the tow bar and electrics on a 2020 Defender 90 last year. I purchased my RRS instead and kept $42,000
