Is there a trick to getting the steering wheel entry/exit mode working?

The manual just says the steering column adjustment knob just needs to be turned to the 'auto' position, which I've done. It even pops up a message on the dash saying auto mode has been selected, but when I open the door, the steering wheel doesn't get out of the way, it just stays put. I have it set quite low in my normal driving position, so there's plenty of room for it to move up out of the way.

Is there some other setting that needs to be enabled or disabled?
