And the AWD (notice I did not type 4wd) Evoque doesn't disgust you? The whole vehicles concept is disgusting. What about not having a Land Rover military variant for the first time since the creation of the marque? Or the constant disdain the dealers have for anyone wanting to buy a Defender? IMHO if you removed one of the drive shafts on most modern Land Rovers most of the owners wouldn't know until the first service interval when the mechanic informs them.

Totally agree.

At the end of the day, LR like any manufacturer has to make money, so they have to make cars to pander to the masses. But they need to maintain a military variant, otherwise the core value of the brand will be lost.

Even Mercedes has the foresight to keep their G-Wagen, and as a result win lucrative military contracts.

And Front Wheel Drive is just going too far

Land Rover have been building 2WD since the 1950's, although they were rear-wheel drive.

Even the famous matchbox model "Ther Rover Service School" depicts one of the 2WD Land Rovers. Both the RN and RAF had 2WD Land Rovers for their CL fleet for on base duties.

They had tubular front ends with standard LR swivels but no diff or halfshafts.

On the transfer box the front output was blanked off.

2WD Landies are a bad idea as they dilute the brand. The Evoque itself is an excellent idea.

There are advantages and disavantages to both front wheel and rear wheel drive vechiles. My last car a Aurion from Toyota was front wheel drive and seemed to be a inhibitor for people buying it, it was one of the most economical v6 vehicles on the road.

As for the Evoque, the AWD is front wheel drive when the system understands four wheel traction is not requires, as I understand it.

The Evoque has had great reviews and I have been extremely happy with it's performance. No I don't need a military variant and perhaps that is a good thing, bring new buyers into the brand is the only way any brand will survive. I have had many people tell me they love the car and think it is one of the sleekess vehicles on the road, and I agree,

Get over it the Evoque is a Range Rover.... end of story.

The problem is that they are almost affordable to me now, and SWMBO wants to know if we can trade the L322 in on one...!!!

There are plenty of excuses to not get one, you need more space, they only are good for travel long distances for two, that you can manage to work around to another model. It fitted my criteria so not a problem. Another issue is top of the range, which we are close to, is a lot more then the prices in the article below...

I had to steer my other half away from getting a Grand Cherakee Jeep - after a freinds experience I am glad I did...

On the other hand perhaps the SWMBO has a good point

What I don't get with my wife - well, one of the things I don't get with my wife is that she LOVES the Range Rover, even when it breaks she doesn't have an issue, "just fix it and give it back" so I don't know why she keeps going on about wanting to own one of these...

I have so far managed to keep her away from the Dealers, but I'm not sure how long I can continue to do so....

Most of your reasons don't really stack up unfortunately - it is only her daily driver, and the kids are basically grown up, so we don't need to cart them about much any more. The only one I could use is the equipment level. I'm sure a base model Evoque wouldn't do it for her compared to the Rangie...
