A mate bought an Amarock,it has no low range either.He tells me its not needed.Told him wait until he is stuck on a soft beach,backwards is often the only way out and you will need low-range.;);););););)Quote:

Low range ? Not sure. It's pretty light compared to a D4 so may not be absolutely necessary. I've had our freelander2 up to its belly in soft sand (tyre pressure too high) but there was no issue with not enough grunt in forward or reverse (it's clearance that's it's downfall - oh for eas)

So 2 crawler ratios and 7 above in a single range should have it covered nicely :)
And backwards isn't usually a concern as most reverse is quite slow and could be lowered...

I Think it's more a personal comfort thing:) it would take some getting used to not having "low range" when off road. But in all honesty, with the likes of 9 speed autos coming out now why can't the first 3 gears be low range type ratios with the remaining 6 ratios similar to the current 6 speeders. Could just electronically lock out the lowest ratios and call them low range. I'm surprised no manufacturer has grabbed a hold of the idea, being able to shift into low range on the fly would have to count for something right?Quote:

I think you'll find the new RR and RRS can shift into low range at speeds up to 60 or 50kmh cant remember what it is and the D4s can shift out of low into high at speeds up to 60kmh. Im pretty sure the new 8spd Amarok dont use first gear unless needed they normally start off in second unless you hit the off road button or it really needs it. I could be wrong but i think thats what the salesman told me.Quote:
