Skytrek (Flinders Ranges) with Disco Sport

    Good afternoon all,

Anyone here done the Skytrek track through the flinders ranges?

I am wondering is the Disco Sport capable?

Ie are there sections where the ground clearance is inadequate and I would be better with the disco 2.

    Thanks
    Joel

    Hi Joel,
I went on the skytrek track three years ago, from memory you wont have any problems in the sport. The last steep bit was fairly rocky but i saw normal 4wd utes do it fairly easily but slowly. The diversity of the flora is great and you get a guide sheet to follow whilst on the track.
There are also plenty of other tracks in the Flinders ranges, Mena Morna was very good, A different type of track but has access to Lake Torrens which is spectacular and hard to see. They also have three more tracks that i haven't done yet but are on the list to do.
Warra Weena is also magnificent and has a couple of tough tracks but great views and experience. and some easier tracks.
There are many things to do in the Flinders Ranges and i will definitely be going back to see more of it.

    Thanks for the tips Ian.

We have just started looking as the Mrs and I have both snagged next week off so we’re thinking we could load the kids in the car at 6pm and punch out the drive from Melbourne. That should give us at least 5 days there.

Very very dusty, and some very sharp rocks. Pay close attention to tyre placement and pressures.
The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈

Did it a few years ago as its in my back yard, we were in a disco 2, the last bit is quite steep but went up ok, I remember I was the only one in the group that didn't change tyre pressures at the start, but that was due to laziness,I think I did in the end but only to soften the ride, there are a couple of steep creeks, but from memory it was my choice whether I took them on or not, thoroughly enjoyable day I must say, I don't know the ground clearance or abilities of the sport, but I would only rate this track as a 2.5 /5 for difficulty, so probably be ok,it's fantastic to do it though, highly recommended

    Cheers James

I was there last year in the D4 and I'm almost certain the Disco Sport would be fine.
You may get a few other ideas for the Flinders from the trip report I wrote up here:
    Flinders Loop from Brisbane
    SkyTrek is post # 26
