As the man in the article said, with a hybrid there's no range anxiety. Same goes for range extender electrics. But a pure electric? No, that won't be the case until there are chargers in every town and charging them takes no longer than filling the tank now.

The situation for full electric cars now is like it was for ICE cars in the early 1900s: they were a novelty, you couldn't get fuel everywhere - it was often sold by chemists - and so on. Cars were designed like horse carriages but without the horse (like now - why does the Tesla S have such a long bonnet? The electric motor doesn't need all that space, it's just modelled on what's required for an ICE). Things will change, but not that quickly I suspect.

Hybrids are really the most complex & ridiculous waste of resources, why buy one at all, the electric stuff is taking up space & eating into your GVM, Make your mind up, you want long range , buy an Internal Combustion, Want efficiency buy electric.

Seriously, why do people make out range anxiety an Electric Car thing.

Would certainly hope it’s 5 star rated when all but the base model Kia Ceratos are. (And they comes with a 7 year unlimited KM warranty too 😉 ).

Would expect everything in the LR range to be for what they charge.

From an engineering point of view, Its easy to make a family sedan 5 star safety rated its much harder to make a true blue offroader 5 star safety rated as Jeep continues to find out. The juggling act with the new defender would not have been easy by any means, offroad, onroad, efficiency, safety, comfort, cap ability, utilitarian, durability & reliability..ugh my head hurts.

All the Japanese manufactures seem to manage it ok.

    Hilux - 5 Star
    70 Series - 5 Star
    Ranger - 5 Star
    BT 50 - 5 Star
    Triton - 5 Star

    Euro too
    Amorak - 5 Star
    G Wagon - 5 Star

Not sure why Jeep struggles - maybe because it’s a ****box?

Don’t see why a Land Rover should be any harder in this day and age - they should romp it in, no excuses if they can’t.

3 of the popular 4x4s amongst Solid axle Lovers in 2019

    Jeep JL 1 star

    Suzuki Jimny 3 star

Toyota Landcruiser 79 series dual cab "untested" & unrated (most likely 3 star like old single cab)

I agree given LR's reputation in the past with safety, they should gain 5 star, however it is far from easy to achieve especially with a fold back roof imo.

Australia is expected to be one of the largest export markets for the vehicle, partly due to its long history here.

The Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) awarded the 79 Single-Cab five stars for safety, its maximum, in October 2016. The 79 Dual-Cab and other 70 Series models have not been rated.
