Finally they drop the LR4 bonnet box on the road testers and reveal the huge series style hip line down the side, more series LR retro than a defender imo, GB should be happy.

Looks to be same camo as we saw of the defender behind gate at HQ with the expedition roof rack.

Also back is very defender/series, with the addition of bulging wide wheel arches for stability/stance. Will become even more so once they drop the box camo around the rear lights etc, will it have retro rear windows next to doors, is that what they are hiding with the raised camo there?

Roof still has boxed camo, hiding shape, alpine window and roof rails.

Rear passenger window has a fake panel over it to match rear fake boxing camo. Will they have an opening for rear passengers? No large Cpillar on SWB?

It seems this SWB was no slouch as per the comments, guy was only loosing him at 220kph so 215kph? Autobahn Germany? Thats not retro.

At the moment with road tyres/wheels, no snorkel, alpine window, sliders, front bar etc and camo I admit to some it may look ordinary without imagination, cue our resident photoshop guru.

Im hoping at launch events they do one with all the optional offroad gear and 18s with 32 inch muddies. Won’t be retro...

You are ever the optimist GB
The rear looks more Pajero than Defender to me?

Also I think you are hung up on looking tough

    Iooks can be deceiving

A GreatWall Ute looks tougher than a Hyundai Getz ......
I know which one would get flogged by the PDR more easily!!!!

I must admit though those latest spy shots rear 1/4 view the front guard doesn’t look as susceptible to off-road damage, might even be able to fit side rails if ARB etal build a proper bar for it?

Funny how LR do things. I hope the Explorer model doesn't have all the bells and whistles as mandatory gear as well as the essential off road kit but I bet it will have. I hope.there is recognition that there needs to be a model with all the off road goodies (not cameras and similiar but air suspension and rear locker with terrain response) combined with 18 inch wheels and basic seating (or leccy leather seats as an option). Cheers

Sorry but LR missed the boat on that one, if they had been more pro-active in persuing reliability then they may been able to hold up against the Toyota a little bit. Land Rover concetrating on military vehicles was always a limited market with lower vehicle turn over.
Even Toyota want to stop making 70 series.

    Hmm
    4 model lines

    They should have run with;

    Hipster
    Beatnik
    Bohemian
    New Age Traveller

Scott your dreaming to think they will have a model that has both top spec goodies like lockers and TR as well as coil spec issued 18s.

    Just not the JLR way!

The 0.06% of buyers worldwide who will actually take this thing further than a long dirt driveway visiting Phoenix’ parents farm for the weekend really don’t factor into JLR thinking.

That's a really interesting story. Thanks for that. No mention of a dual cab though.

Yes, plenty pooed the new coil light weight LR suspension, and plenty of people poo pooed the 300Tdi with light weight drive flanges, plenty poo pooed the TD5 with electo controlled stuff that will never be suitable for outback travel, then there’s the Puma Defenders. Don’t really need to go on.

The new Defender will be poo pooed by plenty of Defender owners including those who owned the above so called soft poo pooed Defender vehicles. Which I think is funny.

All that JLR really care about is whether it appeals to people who wouldn’t buy the previous Defender or the D5.

I know I'm dreaming. But I don't want a coiler independent suspension. No way. Rather keep my D2.

    Cheers
