It's all about braking standards. Bigger brakes equals better braking over shorter distances.
That's an advantage both on motorways at high speed and in normal driving, as well as for towing.
18s should be fine, I think. I'm saying that as someone who likes the 16s on my current Defender.

I can’t find any indication on the BFG site about which sizes have LT ratings. tyresales.com.au though shows only a couple of LT-rated KO2s and 275/65R18 isn’t one of them.

It looks like BFG have cut back on the LT options. My D4 is running LT265/60R18 that it appears I won’t be able to replace.

It’s pretty funny to say big wheels are necessary for high speed

They are necessary because they look good

    And perhaps fit bigger calipers
But then again what diameter are Formula1 wheels

    Hmmm

    Big wheels is bling

With a speed limit of 125kmh max in Australia
What is this high speed you talk of

18s are bigger than they need to be to pull up a 3T wagon if Toyota can do it on 17s

Bigger than 17 is **** and nothing more.

KO2 275/65/18 has a load rating of 123,so that is an LT tyre.

265/60/18 is on the available in Aus list, load rating 119,so also an LT tyre.

Some BFG tyres have LT on the side wall, this relates to Long Trail, nothing to do with load rating.

It's not about the wheel size, it's about the brake size.

And the ability of the brakes to cool.

Traction control,HDC, can also cause the brakes to work very hard at times.
