Thread: Why wouldn't you go for base spec 110?

I'd want the locking rear diff, and anything that enhances traction off road.
A bike rack, maybe a cargo barrier, the deep floor mats, (genuine mats are generally bloody good) maybe the snorkel (sorry, raised air intake..) and that's about it.
The problem is I think you need an option pack to get the E diff.
You can down spec an option pack to get the 18" rims with the diesels, which is good.

I still haven't seen a spec sheet to see what the did and t/case ratios are, etc.

You don't need an option pack to specify the rear ediff, it can be a stand-alone option.
18" wheels only available with 4cyl engine, ie smaller brake package is tied to engine size.

TR2 appears to allow for customisation of how it responds. How useful is that compared to the standard TR?
No idea, would have to drive back-to-back on technical terrain to know.
What I do know is standard TR is very good, especially when combined with a rear ediff.

After that it's personal preference, for example
I far prefer leather seats for durability and keeping them clean.

I think there is way too many options of which most are really a bit wanky to me.

I'm keen for the Aussie spec sheet to get published, so you can look through the options and find out which ones are *only* available if you pony up for a higher model. For example, on the UK spec sheet I can see that the heads-up display, which could actually be really useful with things like the inclinometer, is standard on the X and may only be optioned on the HSE.

The TR software upgrades are part of the Towing Pack or the Advanced Off-road Capability Pack.
The e-diff can be optioned on its own or as part of a pack with roof rails, 230V power socket, and off-road tyres (at least in the UK).

After that there's a bunch of body protection stuff and mud flaps and rubber interior protection that I'd option on.

But in the end, you're probably right. The base model would likely do me.

I ran through the build your own list on the LR Australia site and went for a fairly minimum spec, but it didn't show a price yet.
I think the TR2 gives the auto option.
I'd want the more powerful of the 2.0 diesel engines, e-diff, bullbar and winch, side steps, mud flaps, towing kit with 18 inch alloys, AT tyres, roof rack and maybe the body wrap. Leather seats would be durable, but I'd probably just add seat covers to the standard seats.
I'd probably just go for white paint, but add the black highlights.

Mats,maybe after market,but will need them.

And these would probably be aftermarket.

Bull bar
Heavy duty cargo barrier,Milford,whatever
Dual battery system.
Rhino roof rails,suit crossbars for RTT.
LT AT tyres

And that would slot in at about $90K i recon

So need to start saving.
Just hoping it’s got a real jack,same as old Defender.
And a 5 year full warranty.

A bigger diesel would be nice,but if it appears,it will probably be another $10k or so and have the larger brakes

The Defender has an impressively low crawl ratio of 51.5:1 for diesel versions and 57.2:1 for the six-cylinder petrol.

It will be interesting to price up the basic options I would want vs opting for a package. I have an E-Diff in my MY14 D4 and whilst it is nice to have, I wouldn't consider it a show stopper. I see it can be optioned separately for the Defender rather than having to get one via a package, which is good.

My poverty level TDV6 D4 has everything I could possibly want. A base level Defender with a couple of select options (possibly E-Diff and bullbar) would do me nicely. I kept my D2a for 11 years (from new), so I have a few more years left in my D4 yet, its only run in now at 160,000km...

Doesn't look like I'm going to get a dual cab though.... :-(
