    P400 and touring

If I was to look at the new defender as a family wagon
I would find it hard to NOT consider a petrol

I’ve been looking for fuel specification on the P400
No luck thus far - will it be compatible on Opal (ie 91 octane) will the low octane skeet the fuel economy out the window???

I found this review on the P400 in a RRS - about the same weight as new defender
Despite the race car drivers being disappointed what was interesting was their
    16mpg economy

From Google that is 14.5L/100 I assume them driving it hard would probably be similar to sensible off-road / sand driving. On 90L that’s 550km range with 10% reserve.
BR you might need me to carry a 44 of bang in the tray !

Land Rover Defender 2020 pricing and specification confirmed: This is how much you will pay for the new off-road SUV - Car News | CarsGuide

Dubbed P400, the petrol-powered Defender is again paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive (4WD), which will result in a 0-100km/h run in 6.1s, according US-spec data.

Fuel economy is rated between 11.2-12.1L/100km, with the 48-volt mild-hybrid system aiding in keeping fuel usage down.

I would simply add a poly 40L tank to rack, with clear tube for offroad touring if im doing a trip that needs huge range between drinks.

Not bad for the enjoyment you would get having 400hp and 550nm torque + 0-100 in 6 seconds.

Yeah I’ve seen that number and the RRS claims similar
But real world always trumps manufacturer specs ...

Is the donk in the US RRS the same p400
Seems on review it reads as the same system (48V mild hybrid etc etc)
And they claim 16mpg (US gallons i can only presume) that is a fair bit off ?

BR have you read or heard what fuel spec it drinks?

Heres the specs from US, crack the code if you dare P400 and touring

It includes the new European standard of real-world testing figures.

P400 engine in a 90 would be pretty good, IMHO.

    A Honda Jazz runs on 91 with a CR or 10.3 :1.

    Re the P400.
Remember it is a MHEV , so I wonder what happens to performance and fuel economy if you are towing and don't brake often and the battery runs out.

    Thanks Rob
Assuming euro e10 is similar to Aus spec (and that might be a stretch!!!)
I believe it is supposed to be minimum RON94

If it will run on e10 rubbish I’m sure it will run on Opal but with reduced performance (opal = RON91) and likely slightly more fuel burn

Interesting the car and driver review on the P400 got 14.5l/100
I thought the new testing regime was supposed to be much more “real life accurate”
