I always love seeing a hi-lift used as bling!
Where exactly on that will they use it?

    Plastic front and rear bumpers
    Plastic sills
    Alloy wheels

Maybe they will just use it to dig out the silly maxtrac when they get buried in the mud?

I’m guessing this one isn’t a JLR approved activity having a playdoe as backup vehicle!!!

I also had a giggle at the high lift.....I’m sure they’ll be able to justify, under the two recovery points.

Yes I noticed that as well - I have had my hi-lift for 42 years (was a Xmas present from my Dad) - actually only ever used it once on a vehicle (my old series 1 in 1979) but used it for other things around the house. Yes and I have had the obligatory knock on the head when using it once.

It has never been near my RRS as there no way it can be safely used (either to the car or me). I could use it on my 101 but the lift would have to be too high for safety.

Yes on a modern vehicle - these are all bling and are pointless.

Either way it looks about as expedition ready as 20 or so 4WD I crossed paths with on my trip to bunnings.
You can see it, also when it has a winch it has the removable fairlead cover number plate holder.

So did those 20 4x4s you saw have roof racks, hi lift Jacks, mud terrain tyres, durable height adjustable air suspension, ladder, recovery hooks front and rear, two spare wheels, max trax, winch, offroad nav system, a full width led bar, extra fuel on the roof?? Please. The New Defender

Africa is no walk in the park, all that gear will probably get used, including the high lift (anyone that thinks a highlift is just for changing tyres to be fair has not spent much time offroad)

Highlift could also be used front and rear, as its the upgraded abar, and winch is mounted its metal.

Yes and no, but they’ll get nearly everywhere in Aus.

    Please??
    - Roof rack, yes they all had one, not unique to new defender and my guess is it’s an option not standard
    - Mud terrains are on nearly every 4WD, I prefer AT’s, not unique to new defender
    - No height adjustable air suspension spotted but that’s no show stopper, ever taken notice how many rigs are touring Aus or the world on either coils or leaf, although my rig has rear air so I’m half way there, imagine if LR release a coil defender, kids blow that argument out of the water.
    - Ladder, didn’t see one, wonder how we have accessed our roof rack for the last 20 years, no essential for overlanding, again it an option not standard, not different to any other 4WD
    - Front and rear recovery points, didn’t look really close but most would have them if they are out and about, again nothing new. Not unique to the new Land Rover
    - A couple had a second spare, again nothing new, most probaynhabe it sitting at home unlike this guy showing off at the servo meet up, see plenty of 4WD carrying a second spare, I choose to just carry one when touring and one when I head overseas, again not unique to the new Landrover and not a standard option
    - hi-lift Jack, nearly every second 4WD has one bolted to the roof rack, so because this guy has one bolted on (actually it looks like a very tall hi-lift) it’s now a requirement? Don’t believe it an accessory you can order through LR, I don’t see the need to carry one for last 39 years
    - maxtrax, again every other 4WD has some sort of tracks fitted, not unique to the new Land Rover
    - full width light bar, yep quite a few had one, again not an overlanding requirement, again not unique to the new Land Rover
    - additional fuel, I’m sure some would have them sitting in the garage ready.m, again not unique, I fact some of the rigs would have double what the new defender has as standard. You know, keeping weight low.

You must drive around with massive blinkers on....sure the new defender will suit some, but they will only be a drop in the ocean compared to the many different rigs overlanding around the world. Hang on you mustin get your Range Rover out of the driveway..

I recon all the cars I spotted would handle Africa, Africa is on my short list for 2022, so do I need to ditch my TD5 110HT buy a new defender and kit it out like above. ? My guess is the high lift won’t get used.....

The all new defender looks like a good piece of kits, although doesn’t suit my requirements.

If the defender pics above, fueling up at a servo with a few bolts on accessories floats your boat all good and well, for a we know he could be doing the shopping run. No different the the majority of 4WD getting around cities.

Overland ready? Really, it ain’t hard to have an overland ready vehicle, and it doesn’t have to be the new defender. I have no doubt we will see the new defender touring/overlanding.....not different to the many other makes and models out there.

    Thank you.

Cmon mate, we all know that that African new defender and what it has on it is far from the average shopping trolley, its loaded with pretty much everything.

Its in access mode, so thats why its low.

No idea how you think 4 guys, one in boots, car covered in dirt, with all the accessories i mentioned, more added whilst you were posting, would be going shopping, i don't know where your shops are, but mine you don't need a truck that can do most tracks in Moab to reach them The New Defender.

Also range rover driveway, no idea what thats about?

    Blinkers?

I would happily jump in that as it is and drive around AU, driving on as much dirt and sand as possible, i can tell you now with 100% certainty the average 20 4x4s i see on the road, would not tick that box for me.

Why do some get upset about a few getting excited about a well kitted out new defender, to the point of offending? Why not just be happy for them?

Seems there is a lot of hate every time someone posts something positive about the new defender, it kind of puzzles me to be honest, its like some on here are scared of the new defender succeeding or dont want people to be allowed to think its great?

Heres the African defender full list again incase it was missed, far from average and as rob said well kitted out.

    roof rack
    hi lift Jacks
    mud terrain tyres
durable height adjustable air suspension ladder,
    recovery hooks front and rear
    two spare wheels with RWC
    max trax
    winch
    Winch bumper
    offroad nav system
    a full width led bar
    extra fuel on the roof
    Bash plate
    Snorkel
    Deisel

So the defender has a winch, roof rack, hi-lift jack, a small jerry can, a light bar, a second spare parked in a servo.....holly ****, how exciting, to the average punter driving past it’s just another 4WD with a few bits bolted on.

Rangie comment was based on your user name, figured you might own a Range Rover...given you question pretty much every other 4WD out there and that the defender is the be all of 4WD yours must never leave the driveway.

I’d quite happily have a new defender to cruise around town in, weekends away to a bnb......than switch to my 110HT for overlanding...but don’t see the point in having two 4WD’s in the driveway.
