Tilfords Hobart only got one 4cyl 110 with more to come inc a 6cyl in Sept/Oct.

Car is much bigger than the pics show..bigger than the D5 cause of the spare wheel. Seats do fold flat too but compared to our D4 SC I was a bit underwhelmed by the interior. Meridian Sound systems much the same too but infotainment system looks and performs good. Gear selector on dash a bit weird..sort of Citroen like. Seats again not as comfy as the D4..bit too stiff but may wear in. Materials are very workmanlike...wife won't like them..too rubbery😐

Engine gutsy but not as punchy...naturally ..as our SC..ride seemed about the same..but for 115k..mmm..think I'll wait for the 6cyl petrol.

Supply will be a major issue due to factory Covid catch up and we are at the arse end of the world..literally!

Salesman said it's tough atm due to model discounts by other makers.. I mentioned the Paj run out and he just shook his head saying how can we match that!

They also battle the local obsession with LCs and Prados which he said are grossly over valued and over rated mentioning the average yota owner spend at ARB is 10k.

I don't think we'll see too many Defers in Hobart for a while if at all.

He also said the resale value of D4s is increasing??

Anyhow it was a nice chat and an interesting vehicle but im not convinced yet it is a better car than the D4 SC which he rated v high..maybe the 6cyl will be🙄

    Oh and apparently there's a SCV8 Defer in Europe..which LR is evaluating🤤

Following from Inter674,spoke to the sales guy i know at the local dealer.

    He is not very happy

He said come down and look, but neither are for sale, but i won't have time before we head off for a couple of weeks away.
No diesels until at least end of 2021,possibly the 6,and then that isn't confirmed.D240 gone for good from the Defender range in Aus,wouldn't say why.Seems odd as its available in the D5.Rumours are Defender isn't paying for itself, with the D240.I suppose there is a heap of R and D that needs recouping.
    Only petrols,at starting base model price of $115K,i didn't ask,but i bet that is a 5 seater.
Petrol is pretty complicated, turbo and supercharged, and must run on premium.
There won't be many available until sometime next year.

Said can't compete with other makes, difficult with a diesel,no hope without one.
Doesn't seem like a good start at all,in Aus.Apparently the D240 will still be available in Defender in other markets.
I did notice D240 in D5 was derated in Aus about 6 months ago or so.I don't know why.

Anyway,i did see a green one on the road today, which was a surprise.
    Looked good.

A car broker said that to me a couple of months ago.
He said a good one is a very sort after vehicle.

Maybe i throw $5K more on mine than i thought it may be worth and see what happens,i am in no rush

Seems we are starting to see how the low volume - high margin strategy will play out at JLR. Perhaps the new CEO will correct this course.

I am still looking forward to see what they do with the next generation Defender in 4-5 years. The New Defender Series II will be one to wait for. But for this to happen we do need more people to buy the current New Defender to sort out all the first generation bugs. SD6
