LR will not allow the dealer to discount the car.

However my dealer did discount options & dealer delivery…
I think you will find under Australian consumer laws there is no way LR can order a dealer not to discount. Resellers often use this excuse as an easy way to avoid having to negotiate. LR would be horrified to hear dealers are saying this.

I think you will find that EVERY LR dealer you talk to will say the same.

Have you ever walked into an Apple shop and tried to get a discount…?

There is a difference. LR dealers are franchises and thus are independent entities. LR sell them a car and the franchisee sells it with a margin. They are welcome to discount into that margin or use whatever manufacturer incentives/volume discounts to encourage sales. LR can only set the RRP.

Apple owns each store and thus can dictate how they operate within themselves and set pricing.

Pffft.... currently there is no room for discounts with JLR. All negations are on trade-in and other perks like free servicing, discounts on accessories. The actually discount on a P525 was just to make the sum look 'even'....So good luck getting more. m

I realise that but my point still stands. Try getting a discount out of a LR dealer on the car - I would be incredibly surprised if you do.

Four separate LR dealers have all said the same thing to me “we can’t discount the car, but we can discount the accessories/trade-in”

I agree that you would hard pushed to get a discount from a dealer, a dealer would be an idiot to discount when stocks are so limited, BUT JR cannot force them to sell at RRP. The same goes for those dealers lucky enough to have one in stock. LR can't stop them selling at way way above retail price.

Exactly. The point you and I both make is that the dealer COULD discount, and LR cannot control that, but there’s absolutely no reason a dealer will when demand is well outstripping supply. If the dealers are colluding to agree not to discount, then that’s price fixing and is illegal, but it’s a hard one to prove, and unlikely to be happening - it’s just supply and demand. Also many of the discounts seen don’t completely come from the dealership’s back pocket but via incentives from the manufacturer and volume sales target discounts, neither of which likely are available at the moment.

Yes agree. There is no reason to discount at the moment.

I was quite lucky when I purchased as our company’s corporate plan at the time (Telstra)
stated 10% discount on all new JLR purchases including factory fitted option, the dealer
    therefore honoured it.

I have since been informed this is now being ignored or there is some other loose words that give JLR
wiggle room to ignore, if buying via a corporate plan I would read the fine detail of the agreement with
JLR to see if they can be held to it
