18 Inch Tyres Off road durability

We had the Tuff Ant modification done and added the 18" black satin alloys married to Falken wildpeak AT3W
in 275/65 R18.. Brake caliper work was undertaken by a LR independent specialist in Sydneys Northern Beaches.

Fully ADR certified, uses LR replacement caliper, same stopping power as the originals, same pads and rotors,
just the right shape to enable the Tuff Ant 18's to clear ..

Pity that Land Rover did not think of this when they put the D300 and P400 together, save us all a lot of time and money
(if you have the original 19" package that is)

Will have to add the Renegade Rt+ to the list to try Tombie. Good they are have size for both the D4 and the Defender.

275/65 R18 is almost identical to the factory Defender Diameter, which we have tried in the Wildpeaks and found them excellent. Currently have the G015 Yokohamas on 285/65 on there without any major dramas. They brilliant in the wet and super quiet also. They are less agressive AT, probably closer to HT so keen to see how they perform off road. I suspect they will be excellent on sand.

We have found basically this with the tyres on the D4 and Defender

The same basic rolling diameter to OEM for the D4 is a 265/60 R18.
Next step for the D4 is 265/65 R18. Some slight rubbing in full lock and reverse and when in Access mode. Need to deflate the tyre to get it in the tyre well under the car

The same basic rolling diameter to OEM for the Defender is a 275/65 R18.
Next step for the Defender is either the 285/65 R18 or the 275/70 R18 (We have not tried this yet). Some slight rubbing in full lock only

The key thing to remember here is that a specified size and the actual size can be different. Its a bit like saying you take a Medium size shirt... they are all a little different so it can be worth checking out the manufacturers website also

Anyone know if 275/65/18 fit onto a standard steel Rim? D250 90?

If by "standard steel rim" you mean the LR-supplied 18" steel wheel... then yes an 18" tyre would be the right thing to put on that. The LR wheel is 8.0" width so make sure the tyre you choose is rated for that width also. I'm using 275/65R18 Maxxis RAZR on a TuffAnt alloy which is also 18x8.

Thanks for that, I wasn't sure if the Tuff ant was the same offset- I got the new tyres fitted today, pretty close on the front strut but otherwise no clearance issues.
Much better than the Wranglers that were fitted-went with Maxis AT Razr 275/65/18

Has anyone fitted the following tyre sizes to their Defender;

265 x 70 x 18 or

275 x 70 x 18

Back in the fold with a P300 110 Defender.

Would like to fit a good all terrain such as the Maxxis AT 811 RAZR or Nitto Ridge Grappler.

Would welcome any feedback.

My speedo is out by approximately 4km/h at 100 so these sizes should make speedo more accurate.
