    New Defender AKA Discovery X, Defender culture has died with the L663?

    Whether you love of hate the Defender, it has always been clear there is a great family for those who own one, the wave, the carpark discussions etc.

    However, having now owned the new Defender for a year I've found sadly the culture has been lost. Living in Melbourne, there is a large influx of the 110 and now 90s hitting the road. However the simple wave is dead.

    I find (being judgmental) most of the time, the people behind the wheel of the new defender, fits the same category of those who sit behind the wheel of the discovery (Toorak Tractor). Does anyone else share this feeling?

    The comfort and drivability has almost made our 2015 Defender 90 redundant, however when we are behind the wheel of the 90, the culture is instantly reinstated...just not with the L663...Coming from a family of defender owners and being the first to own the L663, my L663 is referred in the family as either "the pretender" or "Discovery X"

    Same occured with the D3/D4 (and 5) for a while...

    Mate, I met some really 'stuck up' D3 owners when they first came out (I was driving a lowly D2 at the time).
    Over time, it moved back to the wave and I very rarely dont get a wave back now.

    Also happened with the run-out previous Defenders, lots of 'trendy' people got one but didnt get the ideal.

    The wave is passé nowadays - everyone in almost all marques does something similar (so do Shed Draggers etc)

    It will be with some regret that I will be parting with my "classic" Defender. Not for sensible practical reasons but for nostalgic ones and the loss of social cachet because it will be regarded by "classic" Defender owners as not a Defender. The imperative to wave will be mine and I will wave to both old and new. That's how you start a movement: by being active!

    I wave at all - both new and old.

    I got a very excited wave from a nicely kitted out new 90 driving up the Hume the other day (Craigieburn bypass).

    Shame. Though, should it be expected that the old culture will transfer so easily onto the new object?

    LR have worked hard at this... and now Ineos are doing the same (perhaps more convincingly)

    Might we soon see owners of Old Defenders and Grenadiers give each other the nod...?

    You want waves attach a caravan to it and watch all the other caravaners wave at you.

    I have been in the Classic Mini, Modern MINI, Caravan and Land Rover community and the wave thing is over rated

    I get plenty waves of down here on the Mornington Peninsula from both new and old Defenders. Of course there are some that just don't get it....
    2022 Defender D250 S being set up for touring.
