How comfortable it is to drive on long journeys.
The transfer case doesn't leak oil (yet), unlike its older sibling!

Often overlooked is the new Defender's off-road capability relative to its many other virtues.
So here is a little thing:
On a steep descent off-road in low range select S rather than D and then first gear....so slow. Hill descent control will also come to the party.
Just as good if not better than the old one.

The diesel D300 is such a sweet engine - so responsive and powerful and quiet
Not like my last diesel - 2003 Pajero 3.2L 4 cylinder
that was noisy as all hell, and whilst it had good torque, the D300 is just in another universe
Part-time I live in a suburb infested with speed humps. I get the notion of traffic calming! However, in these conditions, the difference in comfort between my Bilstein suspended Classic Defender and the air sprung new Defender is worlds apart. Didn't an ancient rock band do a song about this? Steppenwolf - Magic Carpet Ride 1968 HQ - YouTube.
I'm heading west this week in the S M E G to see water in the Darling River in Outback NSW. Many a corrugation along the way. I'll report back.

I hadn’t listened to steppenwolf in about 40 years, so gave it a spin. Fantastic. Thank you.
I can see you must really be enjoying your new defender. Well done.
best wishes. Jeff

Three months and 6000km in...
So smooth and responsive compared to the D4 3L
Economical
Seats are more comfortable - confirmed by partner with chronic back pain
We commute 120km between our places pretty much weekly and it's effortless
One fault with Pivi screen blacking out a couple of times, replaced immediately and overnight.
Going to do an oil change at 10k
