Mmm , a new car with glitches already, not a lot of faith on n them being reliable in 6 years out in the desert somewhere…
I can just see it now, don’t worry honey it’s done this before we just need to turn it off then on again and we will no longer be stuck 500km from anywhere

From memory the reset is only needed on the pivo-pro system (entertainment system). None of the systems relating to driving/mechanical needs to be reset.

    In my 61,000km - 16 months - I have not had to reset anything…

Which is fantastic, but it is a brand new car still and to state its good because you haven't had any issues and needed any resets yet is far from reassuring
In fact even as a fan of LR products it hilarious to think that statements like this are even made, surely that should be the norm and any faults should be the rarity

You are missing the point - I haven’t had any issues and don’t expect any either. If you look for bad news you will find it.

    Toyota DPF issues ?
Subaru wheels falling off? Head gaskets.
Tesla - where do I start?
    Kia recalls.
    Prado engines ?
    Ford Ranger gearboxes
    Isuzu cracking front suspension
    Chinese - rust..

ALL modern cars need electronics to meet emission and safety standards. It’s a sad fact.

Nobody is forcing you to buy one…

Exactly right and precisely the reason I am so stumped on what to buy next, the more I ponder the question and look at the facts the more I lean toward throwing 10-15 k at the D4 as preventative maintenance and keep 30k in a high interest account for the unmentionable crank which is a disaster waiting to happen, heaps cheaper option than buying anything else that is available and I still end up with what I consider possibly the best touring 4wd ever produced

I cross my fingers for you that you don’t experience the crank issue. It certainly seems to be a bit random (not every D4 fails). I wish you luck!

A glitch in the pivipro system that runs the infotainment system that can be fixed readily has been turned into a major catastrophe with a desert stranding as a result.....well honey I know we should have gone by camel.

There seems to be a belief that the new Defender suddenly appeared miraculously and spontaneously in 2020. It does have a history of development stretching back not 75 years but at least 30. Engineering wise it is a direct descendent of the D4 (and not the classic Defender). LR wasn't twiddling its thumbs and scratching its nether regions after 2016 when the horse and buggy Defender still being lamented as dead was declared an extinct species on a branch on the evolutionary tree. It was built on a heritage of LR engineering. For the same reason that any LR will leave you up Todd River without a beer can so could this one: (take a sat phone to call Land Rover Assist)

I reckon they need a load of fine bulldust & 20,000km of vibration every now & then to keep them in fine fettle. Water is an option.
