    New D90 question -was Smart86

Hello. On the list for purchase with no obligation yet. Is it a definite the rear seat base pulls out of the new Defender D90? On you tube in the US from 2021 a bloke just pulls it up and lays the uprights down flat.
Simple. Two dealerships have said no you can’t and the few modification places I’ve rung are unsure. This is important to us for loading our gear in. Please help!!!

New to this so hopefully this post works.
Thanks Hopalong. He’s ripping the whole back out, bit much for me.
Had hoped the seat base would come out with out to much work.

Thanks Tombie. That’s the one I’ve seen. If it is that easy I’ll be happy.
Took one for a test drive and tried to lift the seat but with no luck, bad shoulder so probably needed more oomf. Will try again next test drive.

In the 110 the procedure to have the seats fold flat (horizontal) is:

Tip the head rests forward by pressing the button on the side of each of the head rests. (the US video doesn't seem to recognise that this can be done)

Lift the seat bases forward (they pivot forward on the 110). If the 90 seat base was lifted out and placed vertically behind the front seats this would be similar.

Pivot the seat backs forward so that they fold into the underside of the now vertical seat bases. The head rest action above is essential to allow this to happen.

Of course the 90 might be another set of movements.

The step in the floor is a 90 thing is what Powerfuluk deals with.

Grey Ghost with his 90 here might join this conversation. I'll send him a PM!

    Hi All,

    My 90 was delivered in September 2021 - and is a MY22.

I can confirm that the rear seat base comes out - exactly like the guy on youtube shows..

I just went outside and checked. I felt guilty after reading your question and so thought that I should try it.

There is a fellow in the states that has written up a tutorial on how to remove the rear cross brace as well - so that the floor is completely flat (the same as a 90 hardtop).

Can you do a special order and buy a 90 Hardtop? I am not sure if they are sold in OZ.

    Cheers,
    GG

Thanks for the replies. Appreciate it.
Went for another look at one and can also confirm the rear seat base lifts out.

Definitely pulls out. Not hard to do. My one week old D250S is now a very posh van for my dogs. I stow the bench behind the front seats with a rubber mat over it to keep it from getting messed up. Def dog.jpg
