Are there two sets of vents in the second row maybe?
One that comes with all cars, and is controlled by the front seats, then a second, added only if 4 zone is installed. The latter may have the vents closed off somehow?

I’ve just picked up my 130 - loving the new Defender!
Just wanted to ask you knowledgeable folks about the 4 zone climate control - the functionality seems odd. The fan selector in the back seat (2nd row) only controls the fan speed for the 3rd row vents - the 2nd row vents can only be controlled from the front. The dealer insists that’s how it should be, but what would be the point of having a fan control in the 2nd row console if it doesn’t control the 2nd row vents? Odd…

Thank you both for the helpful info. I went back to see the dealer in the end, it looks like by design the rear fan speed controller only controls the ceiling vents in the second row plus the pillar vents in the third row. The fan speed for the second row vents on the centre consol can only be controlled from the front. It’s a bit of a strange design but hey.
Thanks for the link to the handbook, lots of good info in there.
