    Smart key disabled

I managed to lock one of my smart keys in the car.
Next time I tried using that key it would unlock the car but not allow it to start.
Fix is in the manual - unlock and start with the other key.
Luckily I had both keys with me but would have been a pain if didn't

How was it that the key was locked inside?

I have a Faraday pouch for my key and I can imagine how that key wouldn't be recognised as being in the car if it was in the pouch and if the car locked itself (as it sometimes does in the absence of a key signal) that key would be "trapped".

I must have another gander at the manual.

Interesting as the vehicle we have will not let you lock the key inside,it will beep.
I thought most vehicles were the same.

I assume that the locked-in key is programmed to be disabled from starting to prevent theft of the vehicle in the event of entry by a broken window.

After the other key started the vehicle was the start function of the locked-in key restored?

Yes, that is correct. you can lock a key inside e.g. using the activity watch then if the watch, another key or remote app unlocks and starts the car it activates the key again.

In my case I locked my usual key in the car by pressing the lock button on the door handle not realising I had my spare key in my backpack. I retrieved the key but didn't start the car until later in the day when I went back to the car with only my usual key and it didn't work so had to trek back and get the spare to start.

    Lesson learned.

Strange, I have tried to lock one of the key fobs in the car - it won't let me, the doors lock momentarily, the car beeps and doors unlock. This applies to both main and spare fob, admittedly I havent been game to try locking both in. All being normal (i.e no fobs in the car when trying to lock) the doors lock on the first press, the second press chirps the alarm and sets the immobiliser . MY23.5 P400SE.
