    Awning installation options

Hi - I do not have roof rack or bars, only the rails on my 110. I’m wondering if anyone has installed a roll out awning on the rails and if so, how? Thanks

I've not seen this done. I'm sure it would be possible to fabricate the components to fit both the track/rail and the awning brackets. My concern (as a Sunday engineer ) would be that the cantilever horizontal and/or vertical required to accommodate the awning might exert a torsional force that the single track/rail and its fixing to the roof can't withstand. The bars and the rack distribute that load across both tracks so this is not an issue.

The number of current model Defenders coming to Moreton Island, has definitely increased in the last couple of years. I've spotted six, in the last few days, with two on the same barge as myself, on the way here, a week ago. So good to see!

Roof rails are bolted into the roof with 8 bolts per side. I'd not be worried to mount an awning off one rail, issue is getting the right fittings to lock into the rail securely. Fixing to a T track type roof cross bar or platform bar would be simpler imho.

    Awning Install

I've managed to install an awning using a pair of Yakima quick release fittings onto the LR factory platform.
