FWIW,LR sold more vehicles last year,in Aus, than they have for a while, with Defender leading the way by quite a margin.

After the Dakar success they will sell a lot more Defenders , if they back it up next year and the reputation of the 300 doesn’t improve they will outsell them in following years

That will never happen in Aus,but World Wide maybe.

Although a win by a highly modified vehicle driven by very experienced rally drivers doesn't really mean much, and probably will do very little for sales anyway.

They did this years ago, too. They wanted dealerships to revamp their premises, too.

Modern Motors in Dungog was one of the biggest sellers of LR in NSW but their premises didn't fit the JLR image. (I bought my P38A from them.)

Hmm. So the new Defender wins at Dakar and that's a bad thing?

Aren't most of the drivers at Dakar "very experienced rally drivers" ?

Didn't the Defender beat the Land Cruisers ?

"Highly modified vehicle" - I assume that you have watched the build videos? And know that the modifications were done within the rules. The 500ltr fuel tank would be handy..

I do note that the Dakar Defeners are running coils and not air bags.. Whoever buys a new Defender should option it with coils...

Land Rover are selling miliions of the new Defenders already - the Dakar success can only add to that further. Granted - I don't know many people that can afford an Octa, but there are plenty of people out there that have ordered them.

No one said winning a class in Dakar, convincingly,i must add, is a bad thing.Although there are few vehicles in the class,so not a huge amount of competition
The rules were actually changed for 2026 to better suit the Defender.

No one said the vehicle was not modified within the rules.

I wouldn't think many would option them with coils,it is a huge downgrade from EAS.
And absolutely nothing like the fully modified set up of the D7X-R.

FWIW,Defender sales for the last two years globally have been similar, with almost no growth.
LC300 global sales are very similar, for 2024,but i dont know what the figures are for 2025.

Yes, I read that. Defender sales up 20.4% and RR sales up 4% in Aus.
They seem to becoming quite "common" here in Tassy.
I'll stick with my D4...slightly more room in the back and I can't afford a Defer anyway!

I think that an LC300 customer is unlikely to buy a Defender and vice versa.
They are kinda "different" and should not be in the same sales class.

Don't forget that old saying... win (racing) on Sunday, sell on Monday. (or words to that effect!)

Alternatively one could take the view that LR doesn't need regional dealerships as no one takes them out there or they are so reliable they are unlikely to need repairs regionally.

Heaps around Brisbane as well, was at Coffs last week,a 700Km trip and i recon we saw at least a dozen on the roads.Noticed a couple that had one DRL not working.
But when we go west out to the property,a 1400Km round trip, once over the range,we would be lucky to see one.

As for room, one of the reasons we didn't go with one was it had no where near the room of our old D4,particularly behind the second row of seats.
The 130 was not available then, but i doubt that would have interested us either.
I see quite a few around with roof mounted storage boxes, which sort of solves the issue,i suppose.
