Land Rover Getting Out of Regional Dealerships?

Went in to Blacklock's Albury to collect my new Defender about a week ago and was informed that they are no longer a Land Rover Dealer (they are now selling Jaecoo and Chery instead!) The Service Manager told me they will continue servicing LRs for another 3-4 months. I was told that LR is pulling out of all regional dealerships - Shepparton will be gone in 6 months. Wish I had known this when I put my order in last year and signed up for a Service Agreement - nearest service agent is now in Melbourne, 250+ km away! Independent service places don't appear to be thick on the ground in NE Vic either.
    Pretty disappointing.
    Cheers, Johnno

Land Rover Getting Out of Regional Dealerships?

That is not good to hear. Having said that I service my new Defender at Shepparton - and am looking for a Melbourne dealer. Ahem

Is Ivan (Clarke Automotive) at Wodonga still an LR independent service place?

What about Serv Auto Care in Albury?

    Yes, Ivan's still there.
But that doesn't help John with his LR service contract.

II would be asking for my money back on the service agreement. They have sold you something they have no capacity to deliver.

To me it is more likely that the dealers are flicking LR rather than the other way around.
The LR dealer in Gosford was originally LR plus Jeep now LR plus GWM orBYD?.
The training requirements and equipment for LR service would be very onerous if they do not sell many.

Bunbury, 200km south of Perth, lost its Landrover dealer a couple of years ago.
I was told that Landrover corporate required all dealers to spend multiple million $$ to upgrade their dealership showrooms to the full corporate standard etc. Small regional dealers simply cannot afford or justify this, so they were forced to forego their dealership status.
Bunbury was quite a successful dealership for the few years they had it, servicing all of SW WA and stealing quite a few sales off the metro dealer.
    They now sell Chery cars....

Cairns too according to a Carsales advert.

Whilst it seems JLR Australia are shooting themselves in the foot to remove these dealerships, it probably relates to the cost cutting the parent company has undertaken in recent times.
