    L663 D300 Engine Failure at 140,000km

Hello all, I have a 2020 D300 Defender (L663) from new. At c.138,000km an engine warning light suggested I take it to a dealer. Did that. The dealer diagnosed a blocked EGR. They tried to unblock it and sent me on my way. Immediately after that the engine light came back on and the car started to misfire / hesitate. Booked it in to be investigated and fixed. Dropped it off mid-May 2025 at 140,000km. 11 weeks later the dealer rings and tells me the engine (cylinders 2 and 6) has failed and I need to replace the engine. Not sure if its a warranty job or not. Has anyone had a similar issue and resolved it?

    Welcome to this place!

Sorry to hear of your problem. Most accounts suggest that the D300 is reliable......no consolation given your situation.

Defenders are warranted for five years by JLRA (Jaguar Land Rover Australia). However, all warranties are conditional and subject to things like doing scheduled servicing. Other legislated customer protections apply.

The dealer needs to take up your problem with JLRA.......don't be fobbed off.

Others here will have a view.

My MY21.5 D350 L405 first sold in January 2021 only had 3 years warranty but the drive-train has a 5-year non-LR warranty. LR didn't introduce the 5-year warranty until a little later in 2021.

Apparently according to google the unlimited five-year warranty commenced on April 1st 2021.

Still worth a polite appeal to JLRA's goodwill

Warranty is good. Especially if it is long. But at the end of the day a properly serviced 5 year old vehicle with 140,000 should not blow an engine. It should not be a lottery. In Australia the consumer protection legislation is in addition to warranties and I would be very surprised if the ACCC and a Court thought that 140,000 met the guarantee of acceptable quality and fitness for purpose. I would be surprised if LR dont replace the motor at no cost. Cheers

As long as you have full service history by an accredited provider (doesn't need to be dealer, they just need to have an MRA stamp or number) you should have your engine replaced as at 140k km its not fit for purpose .

You also have the ACCC on your side as said.

    Just my view
