My 23 Defender threw a hissy fit yesterday avo and disabled one of
the smart keys! I had locked it and was being a smart arse and used my phone to get the a/c going!

Message on panel said something like
Press brake b4 selecting gear

Did that and the car stopped and the message
Smart key’s disabled came up
Followed by some pretty colourful language!

The other key works so I’m thinking it’s a trip to the dealership ( some distance away )

Any ideas

Disregard all before!
The key worked a few minutes ago, AND I read a bit more of the manual about re-enabling the key. However I tried the same deal yesterday with no success!

For the record did you follow this in the iGuide?

SMART KEY DEACTIVATION [G2944592]

Key deactivation is intended to secure keys that have been stored in the vehicle. A deactivated key will not start the vehicle. Keys become deactivated when left inside the vehicle when the alarm is armed. For example, if the vehicle is locked by another key, or if keyless locking arms the alarm. Keys become deactivated if left inside the vehicle when closing the tailgate, bootlid or taildoor while the alarm is armed.
To reactivate a key:

• Start the vehicle using another activated smart key or activity key, or
• Unlock the vehicle using the InControl Remote application.

Yep I used the phone app to look up what was wrong and used the other key.
All to no avail last night but it all worked this morning!

It's a mystery

Mine was put through the clothes wash today...I left it in my jeans pocket yesterday and remembered this morning that I should get it out before the jeans went in the wash. My partner went for an early morning run and being an enthusiastic washer of clothes unbeknown to me chucked them and the key in the front loader....it was rescued just before the spin cycle.....




















































It still works..
